Maybe someone here can explain why a RIR cock over White Leghorn seems to produce a dirty grey bird. Im getting quite a mix of White with spots birds out of these hybrid eggs but the Grey one is confusing me. She just looks dirty (with no access to dirt per se) At about 6-8 weeks they seem to have a much more calm disposition than the white Leghorns that they are in with. Of course the Buff orps ,Pitas and Delaware may be rubbing off on them.

The bitsy's(less than 4 weeks) that are in with some Partridge Cochin pullets are much more high strung but most chicks dont calm down till about 6 weeks or so from my experience.

My one barred holland girl was a bit skittish at first now that she is almost 8 weeks she is happy to be held and sit in the hand.

It is because white holds a lot of hidden genes and white trumps a lot of other colors.

Friend of mine just posted this on FaceBook. It's a peahen hanging with the wild turkeys up in Marin.
There's an interesting cross.
Maybe the babies will look kind of like the ocellated turkeys in the Yucatan.

Does anyone know how to get a petition against a city started? My town has now banned backyard chickens. I'm very upset and sad at the same time. But, I'm not giving up my girls just yet. We have a 4h chapter with our city name (90% of the members live WITHIN CITY LIMITS) and I'm one of the poultry leaders. Most of the members are primary aged kids (10 and under) and can only show at the fair small animals and our poultry group is very popular. I want to help our 4h chapter stay alive and also want to be within the boundaries of the city ordinances myself. Anyone have any ideas??? Any suggestions are welcomed. Thank you!!!

That is terrible. There are sections on this site that talk about changing ordinances. Kern
