California - Northern

Mine is 8X12 - hubby advised this size to reduce waste since plywood comes in 4X8 sheets. The broody area gets A LOT of use, can't recommend it enough.

You can see my construction of it on this thread:

Wow that is a nice coop.. Is it still that clean

I like the idea of the t posts in the middle for hawk protection. I wonder if the icelandic's would figure out a way to perch on top of them

@ Molly, Suzy is a little stinker. I let her out to roam and she flies over the fence to the run and lays her egg. Well today i have been outside most of the day working. and I happenend to notice behind the goats bed some eggs. One egg is hers. there have been a couple days I let her out and she goes back in and no egg. didn't think anything of it. Not til now. when we let all chickens run out they all go behind the goats bed and lay eggs. and geese to. so we made teh run cuz of the geese when they are nesting. Now I will be looking again behind the goats beds for eggs from her. silly girl.

i used this guy's plans, although we modified them:

mine is 8x12' (larger than the original plans), and we made some other tweaks/improvements as well -- and i absolutely love how it turned out (although still need to add nesting boxes!):

Yikes! Be careful about those Gopher snakes. My chickens used to eat them (and got addicted) and I haven't seen one since 2006...

Speaking of not seeing a critter, its been a month since that rat had been killed. No piles of crud lying around, no smell, no signs. Also no signs of that Cooper's hawk anymore. Doesn't mean I'll stop watching...

There are chickens in it......................................so no.

The T-posts really help. (covering runs as large as ours just isn't feasible) We have had a few hawks try, but so far, no losses to hawks.

I'm thinking of adding CD's too, as hawks see them as fire and will stay away. (or so I've read) The metallic tape doesn't last through a winter here, and then I have bits of metallic tape EVERYWHERE.

And I have Icelandics - they don't roost on the t posts. But they do sometimes get over the 6 ft fence.

Wow you guys have some nice coops!! Is really like to see what everyones chicken quarters look like. I was thinking about that awhule ago when I was building. My coop is definitely anything from fancy (soon..) It's a 8x12 pallet coop with 3 nest boxes and a table top roost/poop board that takes up way too much room. I'm rethinking this part now. Before nest boxes and yard After Poop board that takes up wayyy too much space! Eating area in yard

We've been busy! We scraped out the coop. Hosed it down with unfiltered ACV. Did a fine layer of DE and PDZ. Pine shavings over 3/4 of the coop floor and play sand directly under the nipple waterers. I also did the same to the outside of the coop wear the water was leaking on the coop. In the run- the same treatment (ACV, DE and PDZ) then around the edges of the run I put down a few bags of sand. As we can afford more bags- we will get more bags and add to.

Hubby also made the roost/poop board and put that up for me. I moved the bucket waterers to the run. I think I would like to move the nipple waterers to the run too. The run is closed from dark to just after sunrise.

I am going to retreat the areas weekly for now.

I love your resourcefulness! Our coop isn't fancy either. But it works!
