California - Northern

So Express Overnight delivery takes 3 days? I would think that you could get a package truly overnight if you had to pay so much! I'm glad that they arrived safe & sound.
I've been looking into shipping dogs by air cargo and I noticed that some airlines will ship poultry. Maybe that would be a faster way to get mature chickens.
My Gold Laced Brahmas shipped from South Carolina 1:30pm on the 25th. We paid for Express Overnight delivery which was somewhere around $125 with a money back guarantee if not delivered today by 3:00pm. So they didn't get to the Redding postal distribution until today where they sat until 3pm! 3 full days no water (There was watermelon in the box thank God!).

I'm going to be in Woodland, today, at Tractor Supply's "Out Here With Animals" event & sale. I'm bringing my American Guinea Hogs to promote & display the breed and my ranch business.

Actually yes! The redness does seem to be going away! So ill keep refreshing everyones water everyday with this and hopefully soon it all clears up.

One thing I wanted to ask was, I noticed none of the chicks have runny noses or sneezing, coughing, or no wheezing heard in their chirps. What is that about? They've all had it for about a month since I've had them. Wouldn't the cold or CRD or whatever have gotten worse by now and affected them more with other symptoms?
It seems to just be affecting their eyes. Redness and bubbles.
Chickens don't get colds. You have some sort of respiratory issue going on. Some can be transferred through the egg. Keep these guys away from the rest of your flock, it can spread to others in close range even if they don't share a coop. And you can take it from one coop to another on your shoes.

No hens a'laying. 26 1/2 weeks old for 4 pullets and it's almost October. What are my odds they will even start laying this year? 15 and 17 weeks old for the rest of them.

Now that I have the extra cockerels out of the coop- I have room for more. When do y'alls chickens start laying again- Feb?
They will lay this winter. Orps and Marans take a bit longer because they are larger breeds. Now next winter they won't lay, as they will be molting. That is why you hatch babies every year - to keep yourself in eggs!

Quote: Yup yup. Any change, no matter how minor. I have 3 broodies in one coop right now with babies and am not getting many eggs because they won't let the others come in to lay!

Morning all thought I'd drop in and post some recent pics!

I'm happy to report that my girls are finishing up their molt! (Ron, you were right) They aren't real faithful at laying eggs yet but the other day I got 4 eggs.

I know that doesn't seem like a lot, but that's the max possible since I've only got 4 girls that lay!

Yay I am so glad they finished up a molt and started putting out for you! hehe

We are getting 4-5 eggs daily from my 11 ducks. Woohoo! If they could get me down jusssst a couple more- we're perfect. I have a friend who wants a dozen duck eggs and she offered $5. That's awesome that a friend values them right off the bat! :)
