To be honest usually everyone tries to break them of broodiness not the other way. One way you can try is mark a couple eggs (so you know which they are) use golf balls or crock eggs and see if they'll stay on them, I check for a couple days. Collect eggs store point down cool and dry for up to ten days then sneak eggs in and balls/fake eggs out at night time. The other way is borrow a broody if you can keep it quarentined or have someone's broody set for you. We are in Mendocino Co and have a broody if you like us to hatch for you, I've got a little cochin in full swing.

I want to hatch out some pita chicks and not have to fuss with the incubator again although I will.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of flies?  Those little red larvae in my run turned out to be some kind of fly maggots because the larvae disappeared & now there are big clouds of flies in my yard. I tried the sticky fly paper & it worked in the coop but not in the yard.

I use the fly pretadors from arnica organics. I still have a few house flies around. So not sure how effective they are.

That is helpful for regular flies. Tachinid flies are a predator, like a wasp that feeds on other insects.

they may not be a bad thing to have around.

Somebody may have released some near their place.

I have purchased predator wasps to get rid of cut worm larvae in my lawn. They work great!

I hear ya! Ever since I had a broody hatch and raise I realized my lil babies indoors and then integrating them after 6+ weeks is for the birds. Seriously, try not taking things away like the daily eggs took may be pleasantly surprised.

At any rate I like hand raised chicks so much better even if its a lot more work. My flock is accustom to getting new birds in now and the breeds are pretty docile anyway so introducing new birds isnt a problem

I have never seen or read about your bird breed. I am all about the personality also, one reason I have more confetti and frizzle cochin and Jersey Giants than any others (I have 8 breeds). I am going to get one more house chicken. I just lost my very first, never dreamed one would prefer to be inside with us after raising chickens for 6 years, they usually just like a treat and wander back out. She was bought separately and just didn't meld with birds she was a people, and died very young and unexpectedly on Good Saturday. Heartbroken.

I have 6 Delawares, 4 Buff Orps and a few oddballs Cream Legbars (1 boy 1 girl), 2 EE's and 1 Hatchery Jersey Giant (raised by the broody buff last year) and a lone barred holland girl from an attempt to get some breeding stock from hatching eggs. May plan is to separate the holland,CLB,and 2 EE's to breed with the CLB boy. (Want more blue egg layers) The temperament on my CLB's is really good. I might breed the buffs with the Pita Roo and see what the resulting hybrids turn out to be like. Im working on Kathy's recreated delawares and hoping the chick I just hatched is a good quality boy.
