Thank you - here is a pic of Gertrude (the brown one), Bertha (the white) and PJ my buff cochin. Both Bertha and Gertrude are Ameracaunas and have been giving me an egg everyday. Bertha is my sweet hen - she is very friendly. PJ is still a baby - she is about 4 months old and is very friendly and always anxious to roam around. I have 2 pullets - A RIR and a Red Star named Thelma and Louise.

If it turns out to be a Fred they have no crow collars. I saw some on ebay and I'm sure they have them on amazon. I don't know how well they work but it's worth a try.

You have a very nice setup!

Well my 7 eggs are hatching. My Pita/Jersey Giant cross is already out. Jersey Pinta or Pita Giant? Wasnt sure if it was fertile by the CLB boy or still hanging on to the Pita (had only been a few days with the CLB) but its a Pita Jersey cross for sure. Orange toes dark legs and almost all black with a few bits of white.

Not sure about the EE cross yet.

The rest of the eggs should be pitas but possibly buff crosses as their eggs are a bit hard to tell apart.

But this means that the calibration on the incubator is better. I have one out and a pip on a pita egg and its day 20 essentially

Congratulations! Got any pictures?

I need some help from hatching experts. :/

I have been trying to hatch eggs from my own Rosecomb bantam pens since the beginning of the year, but absolutely no luck. I've mentioned it on this thread a little while ago, but I am still not getting any chicks. I've tried every incubation tweak I can think of (other than getting a new bator, I'm currently looking for one), and I'm doing research on genetics so see if there is a lethal gene in this breed, but I can't seem to find anything.

I did an egg-topsy on my most recent attempt, and found that (as always) they all seemed to die between day 17-20. And two out of the four chicks pipped internally, but never externally. There were no visible problems with the chicks themselves.

Sounds like they are drowning. I had the same problem with my moderns. I lost 3 hatches. Finally hatch four I did drier incubation around 40% humidity for entire incubation and hatch as advised by other modern breeders. Success 90% hatch rate.

I am new to BYC. I live in the Arden Arcade area of Sacto. I just finished a new coop and picked up some new pullets at Bradshaw Feed. They are blond and black Sex linked. I still have to build a run for the coop. I have a half acre in Sacramento county so that many chickens is not a problem I think.

Cool! Or not today! You will have many hours of fun with your feathered friends. Kern

I have a pair of Pita Peggers. (Pita Pinta over EE) that will need a new home soon they were hatched 4/27 and are so sweet but inseparable. Im pretty sure they are boy and girl and will need to go together. They are a bit on the skittish side but you can tell they want to be friendly someone who will give them attention would be good. I think they are afraid to come out of their cage because one of my broody mamas with chicks has terrorized them anytime they get down in the yard. As chicks they were the calmest and friendliest chicks I have raised to date. They loved to sit with you and even now when holding both, away from the broody, they will sit with you are very calm and appear to enjoy the attention. Would probably get along well with others their age.If just holding one they want to get back tohe cage with the other. They are really bonded since there was only the 2 of them and were taken from the broody who hatched them at just a day. Id love to just keep the girl but getting here alone integrated in with my other birds would be very difficult for her. The boy is already significantly larger than the girl and should probably dress out like a pita cockerel at 24 weeks if kept for meat. Ill get pics but here they are as chicks and feathering has come in almost identical patterns as their down. Pooka (Right and the girl) and Bartok(left and the boy) a couple of weeks ago.
