I think I am just unlucky, cause the most pullets I ever had was 3 out of 13! Usually I just get one or two. I have only hatched like 5 times though. I wonder if the males somehow do better in my cheap incubator.

Someone posted that cooler or warmer incubator temps can cause more of one sex to hatch more than the other but I can't remember if its cooler or warmer that affects the male hatch rate. Maybe someone can chime in?

This is not recommended because it causes hatch problems and all of the chicks will be un healthy.

Incubating at too hot of a temperature will kill the male chicks faster than the female chicks.

It is best to incubate correctly and have a plan for the cockerels. My freezer is full now because that is my plan!

i dont remember either but it was like a 1 degree difference and really i am not that good with the incubator to have it that regulated. i have tried and tried. but within 1 degree? i drove myself nuts trying to keep the humidity correct too. i live in a wet area (coastal)....i like the hens to do the work!

I need to rehome a few young cockerals. Anyone want them? They're half Jersey Giant and all have sweet temperament. Two hatched in early July and the others at the end of July.

I know. I've been able to keep 1 (my other recently passed) and I'm in love with one of the new 'hatches'. He's an olive egger (mom was legbar + RIR and dad is black Jersey Giant) with stunning gold speckled hackle feathers. At about 16 weeks, he's already 7 - 8lbs (just like dad) and I expect he'll get to about 10lbs soon.

The others will probably be rehomed to my freezer if I can't find a taker.
