Can you put permethrin dust on 4 week old chicks? I just found out we have mites. :(
I For the littles, I would use this:

https://www.mannapro.com/products/poultry/adult-poultry-care/poultry-protector

It can be used on chicks over 10 days old. I would follow the instructions for treating the bedding and living areas in this:

Let me know if you cannot open pdf files. They open with Acrobat reader of professional.

The article describes using mite strips for long term control. I have used them and I do like them. McMurray sells them.

Manna Pro products for poultry are great! I was shipped juveniles that had lice and one spray treatment using Manna Pro Poultry Protector got rid of the lice. It can be used on chicks 9 days old and can be used as often as needed because it is an organic enzyme spray. Can be used on coops too. Follow directions on the label. My feed store always carries Poultry Protector. There are other Manna Pro products for Scaly Mites, etc etc. Great products. Been using them for 6 years.

If only it would stay this green all year long!! (As much as I grumbled, the rains were good for making things grow! )

Our weeds got so tall we can barely see the chickens in them!
Timento mow very soon!

I don't know why people don't just use sulphur for mites? It is harmless, compatible with organic practices and effective.
You can mix it in their feed or put some in their dustbath. It works even on chickens that don't come into direct contact with it, as it is easily transferred from chicken to chicken and all around the coop. I can look up the ratio for putting it in their feed if anyone is interested.

Help! my chickens are going crazy on me. I cant seem to get the treat container opened fast enough before i'm swamped and covered with fluttering and stomping teenagers. Is this some kind of trust to me, or just a race for food? They just started this aggressive behavior a week ago.
Is this normal? I can only imagine when they get full grown gezzzz!

sounds normal to me!

They know that you bring them treats and they know what the treat container is. Most of their brain is devoted to food and treats. I assume you have free choice feed out for them all the time and you are feeding them grower or flock raiser feed. They do not do well on only grain so stop that if so. Scratch should only be a treat and not much given to them each day. Try to keep 90plus % as chicken feed.

Get a hand full of the treat out before going out to them and toss it on the ground. they will go for that and then you can have a bit of peace before giving them more

Some breeds are better than others. My pitas are very polite. My delawares have ripped treat bags out of my hands and tried to get through the glass jar to the sprouted grains. Ive stepped on toes a number of times and nearly killed myself trying to avoid trampling or falling on them.

Its normal as Ron says most of their brain is devoted to food and they love variation in their diet. They even attack the oystershel and grit when i put it out. When my broccoli was done this year I threw them a plant into their pen. It was like throwing red meat to piranha.

If you dont want the mob scene scattering a bit of scratch or treat on the ground will get them focused.
