PGRanch, your "mutts" are beautiful!

Thanks! I cannot take credit as I have only had them for 2 days. My friend raises them fantastically. I can't stay enough how big, and healthy her birds are. I am always more impressed every time I go over there. I am ecstatic to have her products in my flock even if they are mixed breeds.

Can someone give me the UC Davis necropsy info? I can't seem to find it on search! How do I pack it? I have it in a zip lock, can I just put it in a box and call it good. The weather is cool and I'm one day fedex from UC Davis so I don't think I need to put a cold pack in. I found the fedex # but all the links I found to UC Davis are outdated. I was supposed to meet PGE at my store @ 9:30 this morning to retrofit my lights and totally forgot about it, luckily my tenant was there and let them in, but I need to get this chick off today so if someone could post it would really, really help me! THANKS!

Instructions are on the website. Fill out the form for Backyard submission.

Double bag the bird. It is probably cool enough to ship without a cold pack. Use the Fedex account number:

UC DAVIS

You can send dead birds here for necropsy testing. I hope you don't need it, but Debi/PetRock suggested this addition and it's a good one. Thanks Debi and Ron, for the link.

UC DAVIS FEDEX INFO: Their account # is 364343981. If you use their account number you will get to use UC Davis's discount which is up to 70% off. They said that they will bill you for the shipment after you get the report (or at the same time.) Also, FedEx and UPS both ship to the actual lab every day... the Postal Service doesn't.

Thank you for the pictures! They are beautiful

Some of you "mutts" are Olive Eggers? The Blue one looks like it could be a Marans mix?

Ron

How can you tell they are Olive Eggers without seeing their egg color? They haven't laid anything yet so far.

I will have to look up Marans. I haven't heard of those!

Quote: The Combs and feathered feet. They could be Brahama mixes, but the comb looks like a mixed straight and pea comb, which is associated with blue egg laying,

What color eggs do your friends chickens lay?

Beautiful birds!

Okay. Interesting! I am not at all versed on the subtle differences.

Hers lay every color under the sun. She has quite a few and they are all in one space. I will have to wait and watch for eggs :) Not that I'm not already anxiously waiting!

Thanks! We are over the moon! Nothing is better than freezing your butt off in the morning while going out to check the animals :) It was 30 degrees this morning brrr!

Anyway, I am a bad chicken mom and I forgot about my Salmon Faverolles and Ameraucana chicks. Not sure how I could forget because they are peeping away in my bathroom currently.

Photos! Here you are!

My older babies, Cochins, Sicilian Buttercups, black sumatra. All hens except for that obvious boy :)

Salmon Faverolles and Ameraucanas.

The mutts. They are a couple months old. I got them from a good friend who raises them organically and naturally. So far I adore them. 4 hens and 3 roos

I'll take some updated photos of our place. We have only been here for a few weeks but its coming along :) We have a LONG way to go.
Cute chicks! I especially love the blues! Beautiful lacing on your girl! It will be interesting to see how they mature and what color of eggs the pullet lays. Langshans is another breed that has a straight comb, feathered legs, and can be blue. They are a tall stately bird and tend to be mild mannered, curious, and excellent foragers. They are my favorite breed!
