Hate to burst the bubble but I didn't rescue them. I bought them to process them for dog food. My dogs are raw fed. :)

They were going to be processed this weekend but Drew wants to keep them to mow for a while so they will go to freezer camp at some other point in time.

Ahhh, I see.

Well then, yummy for your dogs.

On for a minute. I found 2 eggs today. The second one was in the coop, still hot. Two hennies were around it chattering away looking quite puzzled. So cute! I cleaned their poop board and hightailed it out of there. I'm coming back later. They are laying late afternoon silly chickens. The eggs are so cute- the lovely beige'y buff color and small.

i've been away from this list for a while, the semester is getting into its busiest phase -- but wanted to check here to see if anyone's interested in a basque EO and/or splash isbar cockerel -- Mike (monsterclucker) was going to take them, but he and i are both too busy to make the trip between Redding & Sonoma any time soon -- so i thought i'd check once more here before selling them to Western Farm Supply in Santa Rosa.

it's raining this afternoon, so no pictures today, but they are now 11 weeks (basque) and 9-ish weeks (isbar) and looking great -- here are some recent photos from a couple of weeks ago:

Baby is a great looking Roo! He would be good for a breeding program.

Between the Ducks and the pullets, you will be able to take eggs off of you shopping list soon!
Amy I'm glad your egg production is at a high right now!

Has anybody been getting rained in today?
Rain is supposed to start her after 5 or so. It then clears out by tomorrow morning.

Radar looks like:

Happy Halloween!

Hey Laura,

Is that your basque pullet in the background? If so, she looks like she has great mille fleur coloring. Love to see another pic. That must be your CL bowing her head?

Your Basque roo has great coloring and nice yellow legs which are hard to come by. I wish I could take him as my Basque roo is soooo noisy LOL

Good luck.. I hope you find him a good home

thanks! yes, the basque pullet (eleanor) is in the background of the lower photo, with the CL (amelia) bobbing her head -- both are utterly gorgeous! I'll take some new pictures this weekend.

and Deann, if you know of anyone who wants a good breeding roo, Baby certainly has the makings of one.

re: rain, it's been lightly raining since about noon here on sonoma mtn, now starting to get harder -- perfect afternoon to be home with a fire in the woodstove, but the chickens are grumpy to be stuck inside their coop/run all day...

Starting to rain pretty good now in Santa Rosa. It always rains here sometime on Halloween. This year I guess trick-or-treating is a bust.

Planning on taking Laura's idea of a fire in the woodstove, eating some chocolate peanutbutter cups, watching It's the great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, and counting our blessings.

Happy Halloween from SpiderBun (aka Chicory) and my youngest. (Taken 4 years ago! Oh my, time flies!)

I just got busted by my son's school. He asked that I call him in sick today so he can go to the Giants Parade in San Fran. So I called the school and a live person answered. Not only any live person, but a person I know socially. I told her my son was sick and she asked - point blank.... Is he going to the Parade? I hesitated and said "Yes" I am such a chicken.... She said it was okay because they are excusing the students because there really is nothing they can do because there are so many. She told me that so far the school is going to loose $5,000 today alone due to all the absences caused by people going to the parade. Apparently, the state no longer pays for sick days so they school is out $45 per day per student. I told her I'd be happy to pay the $45. She said the school would really appreciate that. Dang.... but I guess it is the right thing to do....
