I'm trying to learn about permaculture and better ways to grow crops. If there are any great websites or books on the subject, I'd really like your recommendations.

I'm working on starting a non-profit down in Cabo where we have a house now, to build a community garden with chickens and other livestock for kids and families.
http://www.amazon.com/Small-Scale-P...sr=1-1&keywords=the+small+scale+poultry+flock I bought this book because of the reviews and suggestions I have read over the past few months. I get it tomorrow. It covers utilizing chickens (and other livestock) in a very harmonious way on the farm. I am really interested in that. I know it doesn't cover everything but read the reviews and see if any of that helps in any way towards what you are wanting to do.

That sounds like a great thing to do!

Oh la la Instagram has a new web format. I still cannot get Tapatalk to work with BYC. I have a half dozen other forums I visit and no issues. Only have issues with BYC. I just cannot even see the forums let alone post.

I wanted to show you guys my black pullet. Can you tell me if she looks like the marans/black orp mix or if she looks like a full marans?
http://instagram.com/amymcmaster If you look through like the first 6 photos of my chickens you can see her. She is REALLY big and fluffy like an Orp. She is about 22 weeks old and is almost as full (feathers) as my 32 weekers and bigger (taller and frame size) than her full Buff Orp sisters that are the same age. Even if she is a mix- I have a sweet spot for that girl.

What do you think? Mix? If that is what a pullet mix of Black Orp/Marans looks like- I want some more lol.
I'm not an expert on orps x marans crosses, but she looks like a pure orp to me. Where did you get her from? Could she be pure orp?

Copy the image URL and pate it in to the field when you insert a picture.

Orp tail, no feathers on feet. She looks more like an Oprington.

Does she lay eggs yet? If so, what color?
Umm yay. Thank you for telling me how to insert a pic from there!! She really looks Orp-ish to me too. I know she is a mix though- a breeder just gave her to me because she got a new Black Orpington rooster and apparently he got into the Marans pen and she got some mixes. I have a cockerel mix too but he just looks blah to me. Looks like Orp traits appear to be pretty dominate? No eggs yet. If she follows the foot steps of the big girls she won't lay until 30 weeks or so. Which means more than likely- Spring. lol

I got her from the same place I got all my Buff Orps and my FBCMs. She said her Black Orp roo covered her Marans hens- I *thought* she had said he had gotten in with them but so I don't think it was on purpose. She needed to get rid of them and I just bought some more chicks so these guys were a bonus.

I will go take a pic of her brother. Be back.
