Broody and her baby's. She hatched 8 out of 8...she is so proud![]()
I made cloth napkin yesterday... Found this awesome chicken fabric. They will match my dishes perfect..![]()
I have a question....I mentioned the testosterone driven Bully Brothers the other day, that are terrorizing the hens. Well, I have them in my grow out pen which is only 4'x12'. ... ....so I'm wondering if this is too little of space for the boys to spend in for the week we're gone or is it sufficient?
I have a pullet (or hen? she is laying now lol) that keeps sitting in the lay box. She makes some noise when I touch her but never aggressive towards me. I take the egg, she fusses at me and gets out of the coop. That's not 'broody' right? If I leave her alone- she will sit on the eggs but if I take them she acts miffed but leaves.I waited all summer for one of my girls to go broody and now that it is turning cold it has happened. Unfortunately, she is one of my 3 young girls (a Coronation Sussex) and one of the only 4 that are laying right now.I keep throwing her out of the nest box and she quickly makes the long trip around to get back in. This is day 4 of her monopolizing the coop. I have 6 nest boxes but none of the other girls want to come anywhere near the growling, white monster! I am going to have to have a backyard egg hunt to find out if any of them are laying somewhere else.![]()

Most of mine complain if I interrupt them and take their egg but they are not broody. This one is sitting on nothing and she fluffs up in a big white ball when I open the door to the nest boxes. And when I put her on the ground, she just stays in the ball shape as if in a stupor. Plus she goes right back into the coop and into the same nest box. She is definitely broody but hasn't plucked her chest completely, yet.I have a pullet (or hen? she is laying now lol) that keeps sitting in the lay box. I'm sorry you have a broody right now!
Quote: That is one step from Broody!
Get one of those kennel nests and stick some TJs eggs under her.
Quote: Once they act like they are in a coma.....................growl at you (but not always, some hens are nice).................you can literally tip them onto their side to look under them for eggs...........they only get out of the nest very briefly once per day, if at all...................
That is broody.

Are you sure that you want to risk them with a young, first time broody? What was your experience with the Coro's and broodiness? Can I give you some lavender marans and brahma eggs to stick under her?
