I Amy!

I hope the Pullet gets better soon.

Nystatin is Vet only? McMurray has Acidified Copper Sulfate. You might be able to find some at TSC. Is there one in Redding?

See you Tomorrow!

Thanks! I will look tomorrow. Meanwhile I am doubling their ACV water dosage. I think I might make them a feed mash (maybe with some of that UK I bought) with some coconut oil in it too (coconut oil inhibits yeast/fungus growth). We'll see! Her crop is big and I know it's what took my other black Orp girl a month ago. We start on the coop tomorrow- I am so excited. We need to get these chickens a new home. All the way around. Crazy sauce what we have been dealing with! See you later today Ron!

Oh and one last thing- so super excited. I found homes for ALL my extra cockerels. That will leave me with 3 cockerels - and if they cannot get along off to freezer camp for the Marans I chose to keep (for now). Anddddd 2 of my younger Orp pullets started laying. Sneaky little things! They are half the size of my big girls and started laying earlier! 24 weeks for these Orps and 31 weeks for the older Orps. Quite the spread in ages! Maybe the EEs might even kick some out. Fingers crossed!

Egg question- do the pullets need to lay for a couple months before getting bigger eggs? They still seem pretty small and some have been laying a month. What is the grams on an average non-Leghorn layer egg?

My ducks lay 68-78 grammers on average. I have seen store eggs from chickens go about that. I assume Orps lay slightly smaller than a supermarket egg layer right? So far they are laying 42-52 gram eggs. Sound about right for pullets about a month into laying?

What am I thankful for this Thanksgiving? I'll never have to go through another one like this. My kitchen remodel is about two weeks away from completion.

The microwave, dish storage, etc.

My cooking area

The secondary oven has been installed! It's not trimmed out yet, but I'll have a place to roast the turkey!

Notice no water yet to the sink?

The dishwashing station, coffeemaker & toaster...........

I just have to keep telling myself.....................it will be so worth it when it's done!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I am not into the tech. of egg size but that sounds right to me. My eggs are always smaller at first for a few weeks maybe even a month. ( I do not keep track) Then they get larger.

I hope you are going somewhere else for the day....

Anyone around here raise Jersey Giants ? I am thinking of a young Langshan ( from Pet Rock) and a Jersey Giant rooster to my layer flock. Maybe the larger Rooster's sizes will make the hawk think twice before taking a chicken in the chicken yard.

Nope, I'm cooking, but it will only be DH, DS & me this year, so not too bad. I'm also taking some shortcuts I wouldn't normally do, but I don't want to end up on a 72-hour suicide watch, LOL.

I'm on my way now to boil eggs (there HAS to be deviled eggs for DH & DS) and bake an apple pie (don't tell anyone I'm using refrigerated crust, LOL).

I have a friend here in Antioch that raises Jersey Giants. She is always looking for homes for her extra boys. There are some of them on the farm with my Langshan boys.
