Argh, I can't wait till the wind is gone... I woke up at 2:30a yesterday, and 4:00a today. My molting chooks are also not enjoying the weather!

mine like to crow in a closed coop as early as 4:30

hardware cloth is a good idea for sure. Maybe even weedblock under the hardwarecloth. sand over the top. I would get the wood off the ground some to . maybe bury some concrete blocks. . keep it 1/2 inch off the dirt.
I have one silly rooster that will crow at 2:00 in the morning . We are close to neighbors but no one has complained... Wish he wasnt one of the Roosters I want to keep . For a while i was blaming the early crowing on the skylight in the coop but he will crow when it is totally dark..

We had a lot of wind here yesterday and today is supposed to be worse. The storm is about to reach us and the forecast says we will have 30-35 winds with gusts to 45... The chickies will be in the coop another day!

I have been trying to catch up on this forum lol! A lot to go through since I last visited . Hope you all have no problems with the weather. Looks like tomorrow will be the worst for us. the chickies had to stay in their coop today. They didnt seem to mind much. Had to go out and pick up a couple new pullets at the post office in the rain. Got there and the whole bottom of the shipping box was wet.. wet soaked up about 4" up the sides of the box as well, ugh... I was happy to find the girls inside still dry and comfy but it really looked like the box had been set in a puddle! I also shipped a little Cockerel off on Monday and was happy he arrives safely today in Texas. These are my two new girls

Why are they so friendly?

I have two now, one black and one Grayish, probably would be called blue I suppose.

I saw one like that white one at Karen's (Sewandgrow) this summer. The silly thing was trying to hatch a large clutch of eggs too!

The pictures are awesome! I like how all the animals are cool with each other lol.
What kind of goat is that?
Im learning about goats that would suit my needs for milk for a american bresse feeding project
And something that can feed the household at some point!
I was told they were pygmies when I bought them but I have since learned that they are most likely Nigerian Dwarf or ND/Pygmy mixes. The grey one is probably the only pure pygmy. I have 2 Nigerian Dwarf does as well and a Angora wether. The tan and black one is a buck so he will hopefully be making babies with the 4 does. Nigerian Dwarves are a really good, small dairy breed. I plan to sell off these guys next year and then start a herd of sheep or Boers.

Quote: We have not had bad wind yet in the Greater Sac area. We are supposed to with the next two. We are not supposed to get heavy rain until 2 am tonight. We will be hit with another over Saturday night and we now have flood warnings for Sunday.

Not true for a bit farther North though. Hold on up there!

I think I can fit about 7 birds in there at night. They are out at dawn. I don't think Ill have a issue with flooding because we are on a hill and the ground here soaks water like crazy. our pond has filled in a bit, but not much else. I guess this week will be like a test.
Do you guys have a lot of trees and shrubbery around your place? My place is literally open plains. I can count the number of trees in about a 30 acre radius. We have like 5 trees on my property! It sucks. But the only benefit I have actually noticed were fewerr predators. Their around, but the most problem I've had all year were hawks. My Doberman and bull dog roam around my entire 5 acres. I've seen them chase 1 coyote. And I font think any raccoons live around here. Thank god I've been spared as far as predators.
I can have the builder customize pretty much any feature I need changed. Im going to make a list from the ideas here to have work into the next coops.
Hardware cloth*
Higher roosts*
And I'm going to ask him if there's a way to move them around. either wheels or skids I really like that idea too.
I was thinking ventilation at the roof also
So glad water isn't an issue for you. The new location for our new coop is much better than the old one. The old one was located on a down slope. Water would pour right in. The trench around it helps. Can't wait for the new coop to be done though. A critter stole one of my roosters last week. I assume raccoon. It was at night during the storm. The roosters slept under the porch for the night because their temp shelter had blown over and was sopping wet. My first run in with a critter. He left nothing behind except a few feathers and 3 roosters left alive and scared. Bleh
