Hi everyone! I have been keeping up with you guys, but haven't posted lately so just wanted to say hello!
It's been coming down in bucketfuls here in Santa Rosa, supposed to continue until Sunday. There's been some flooding, but not too bad, and fortunately not too windy and fairly warm (upper 50s). Hope everyone gets through the storm okay. The wind seems to be the worst culprit- sorry to hear about Mike's hoop coops.
My chickens are doing well. Got 7 eggs yesterday out of 9 pullets laying. My Welsummer just started laying last weekend at over 8.5 mos! I love the terra-cotta eggs and hers have the spots too! So pretty!
Amy, so excited for you about the ducklings! Not much longer now. Will be watching for pics!
I enjoy hearing all the news from everyone and learn something every day from this thread. (I dare not skip a day. Too many pages to catch up on!)
Well, it just start raining even harder. Didn't think that was possible. Off to build an ark!

I could happily take them- but I might have to re-home the male since I currently have 3 males and 12 females. I still have 2 of those males sleeping in a kennel under my house haha! It actually seems to be working for now.
Awesome! How many Orps are they worth? (size wise lmbo) They say 3 truly bantam chickens equal 1 large fowl. 2 modern bantams equal 1 large fowl. I like the idea of having a few bantam sized chickens- they occasional cute egg would be fun but they are really cute and I like that 3 can fit in the same space 1 big one can fit. So it means I can have some without sacrificing work space for my working girls or have fewer egg layers to have them. lol My Orps are my only big chickens right now- the rest are the little leghorns, easter eggers and 2 bantams (oh so tiny!).
Question about bantams. My little bantam Wyandotte rooster is trying so hard to mate with my giant Orp girls. I swear there is no way he is going to have success. He is so tiny his butt comes no where near hers no matter how hard he tries. It is cute though because the hen just sits there patiently waiting for him to get done haha!
I only got 4 duck eggs today. I haven't had this few since September's end! 2 eggs from my Orps too. The eggs are still pretty small (or maybe I am just comparing to the duck eggs too much I don't know) but they are coming more steadily. Almost 2-4 a day now. No lights since we have no electricity that far from the house. My younger Orps combs are getting starting to get red too. We'll see.
Pictures of the OEG hatch from this year-- I took these yesterday.
Wendy-- she "blushes", or her face reddens, when she is excited.
Gav-- get's his own crate. (Sorry for the quality of these pictures, it started to get dark because it starting pouring!) Gav is the more timid one so he was running back and forth... best picture I got!
Caesar--Stays in peace with an older rooster in the same pen.

Anyone in my neck of the woods (Redding-ish area) selling any chicks or young pullets? I have a friend who just finished her coop and wants to join chicken world.
