California - Northern

Good Morning Northern California!

Here is the Daily Digest for December First! Stay dry out There!

Cooper12 has a head lamp too! Eggs are scarce in Placerville. He is still working on getting the new place. Hopefully soon…

It is December already? Zooweemama’s runt duckling did not make it.

The wet soppy weather is taking it’s toll on health. TLS_Ranch had a chicken break a leg in the mud and there may be anti biotics for the family soon.

Zooweemama had asked how long to keep chickens in before they would re home. BigDaddysmom said they should be ok. Also, what to do for allergies to hay and pine shavings?

Costco is the place for powdered milk, Bully Sticks and Salmon Treats. Trisha may not go to Costco—she says to get beef bones from a butcher. Costco has primals, so no Bones to give away.

More gorgeous puppy pictures from BigDaddysMom. I want one…….Capayvallerchick posted that the Mom was training a pup to track in MonsterCluckers picture. It's good to have things like that pointed out since I was staring at the rainbow....

BigDaddysMom has the last day off before Christmas rush.

Waitout loved the pictures yesterday! They were great Huh? Ronott1 posted his bread recipe(Well I do kind of follow a recipe). I also offered to give out Sourdough Starts.

Capayvalleychick has a leaking nest box. A tarp was suggested along with some type of mobile home sheeting? That comes on a roll? Mud was involved but that might have had something to do with understanding how to use the stuff on the roll. Deb posted an update along with a link to Home Depot. It is a carpet runner for mobile homes. Yep, no mud involved!

Wishingforwings goes to Costco! She even posted a picture of a Leghorn in time out sitting in a Bully Stix box from Costco. Shh…Do not let the dogs see this….it might confuse them.

HappyChooks has a house leak and likes walk in coops. The hen house has inside nest boxes, so not leaks! Monster Clucker picked up his new coop yesterday but he has leaking nest boxes too! We will be busy working on all of this after the storms.

Morning everyone -

The downside of living in a heavily forested area - when the wind is blowing so hard that it sounds like a jet engine in your yard, it's hard to sleep without wondering if a tree is going to fall on you. Especially with all this rain.

I need to go out and check on everybody, but I'm waiting for a bit and hoping it eases up some. Havin' my coffee.

Monster - sorry you have also had losses. A turkey, huh?

Yeah it is loud . I need to go open the coops but not looking forward to it. I think I will run
I love seeing the big cedars and ponderosa Pines sway in the wind. Good news no more leaves in the oak trees.

Mike sorry as well about the losses. I dont think a Hawk killed your Turkey though probably something else got him.

so up the hill open / check coops. My old coop leaks it is a probably one of the earliest coops known to man. I think either a cave man built it. ( well it looks that way) or something that was thrown together decades ago. so if the rain stops I need to clean it out for sure.

Then back down here warm with coffee by the fire

Argh It's still raining???? My wonderful worker Luis is building a new brooder palace while we are in Cabo, I hope something is getting done, the Lavender Marans must be bursting out of the baby cage!!

Jason, if you run, you are going to end up really muddy. My oaks still have a bit of leaves.

I'm not looking forward to going out there. The chickens aren't even coming out. Heck, my dog didn't want to go out either.

I say wait lol...
ok I am back.
Recap my trees are not swaying. the larger pines are moving 10 feet in each direction from center.
my lower pants are kinda muddy. I am soaked though most of the sound I hear is wind. it is raining hard but not terribly hard.
The coops are open but no one wants to come out. Hopefully this will let up some later. the big coop needs to dry out and new shavings.

all my oak leaves are on my driveway. not even many on the roof all blew off I guess.
Kelly how is your roof holding up?
It is a miracle mine does not leak

Still leaking but my DH did a temporary fix in the attic to keep it from leaking in my dining room. We had some new siding put on the south side of our house and dormers last summer. It's leaking by one of the dormers. Probably a flashing issue.

From the weather forecast, looks like the wind should die down tonight.

thanks Ron for the recap, i SO cannot keep up with this thread lately. I do my research work out at Point Reyes, where the Secretary of the Interior very unfairly has just decided to shut down Drakes Bay Oyster Farm -- so it's been a busy few days for me, trying to keep up with everything that's happening & whether there are next step(s) that can be taken...

back here at home, everything's soggy from all the rain, but happy to see that the coop (and more specifically, the coop's roof) came through last night's howling wind with nary a scratch -- hooray!! we're all going to need naps today, barely slept at all during that roar -- but it seems like the worst has passed...

yeah tonight is not helping with today...
sorry about the roof.
this does not show the story but here are some of the swaying trees. nothing comes out right on a cell phone but if I take my wifes camera out there I am in deep ****
Chicken yard now unused for now

glad the coop made it. we are having winds which appear to be gusting over 50 to maybe 60 with sustained winds at probably 20-30
Sorry to hear about the oyster farm
