. I have been researching some ways to keep the incubator running without using the generator for short outages.

I do the same here, for a short outage I just throw a blanket over everything to retain heat (of course you have to be home for that in case power comes back on). For long term, we have a generator. For an emergency, I just go to the car adapter. Haven't really had any problems so far. With karma, if you are prepared, nothing happens, LOL.

My duckies should be here today! Went to the store and grabbed some extra flockraiser and feeder. Got my rooster booster electrolytes ready, extra heat lamps...let's do this! :D I don't know if I should call the PO and check on them or wait for them to call me. The wait is killing me!

My ducks arrived yesterday, of course mine are nearly grown. I always end up driving to the sort facility in W. Sac. It saves them an extra day in shipping boxes. They ALWAYS just miss the only truck that comes up the hill, one per day.

Mine were shipped overnight from Florida. :D I am willing to drive to the PO here- but I cannot see if it's in yet or not. Not much detail.

I cannot wait to see your new flock! <3

Even when I get a bator- I still would prefer a pro like Jeff to hatch them for me. I will be getting some MF Leghorn eggs from Cheryl in January and no way do I want to mess those up. At all. I will probably practice on my duck eggs in the Spring and sell off my barnyard cuties because I don't want to keep mixed ducks.

I hear you!

So if anyone here in interested in barnyard mix ducks...keep me in mind! LOL Gotta experiment somehow! :D

I will, definitely. Wish I had the land for some. I will keep my ears open for you though.

Hello everyone! Pro tip: do not try to multiquote from the phone.
It is wet wet wet here! Other then that it is very not dry!

The new coops were NOT in waterproof places at least not from this much water this fast. So the legbar girls and the silkies are all in the extra bathroom/mudroom (viva linoleum!) I'm going to have to put the legbars on cinder blocks and give it a floor, that area is a mud sty this morning. Silkieland just needs a trench around it, I think, and it will be fine. It was almost fine this morning, if we were not expecting 3 days like this I would have left them.We did this last year for the main coop, trenched and routed water. It is also 2 tier and the girls mostly sleep upstairs, but last year the ducks were downstairs and it was too wet. easy enough to do once you see where the water goes. unfortunately the answer in legbarland is.. everywhere. but at least its easy to give a little coop a floor.

So now 2/3 of our bathrooms are chicken havens. Thank god everyone has left by now!

Here is the spare bathroom, Silkieland 2:

CL not so sure about these puffy things:

master bath:

Scalpie is also in there with the 2 broodies for company. she seems happier. ( how can I post a pic in the spoiler box? I cant get both boxes to be accessible at once)

For those of you thinking about putting linoleum in your coops, Id suggest using a remnant ( great store in san rafael, but they pop up everywhere) and not sticking it down permanently. That way you can take it out every once in a while and really clean it. That's what I do for my brooders and such. Ill do it for legbarland too. Its dirt cheap and easy to clean. I was going to suggest that last night to monster on the coops, but i TOTALLY forgot. Bad chiquita, no cookies for you.

Zoo, if you are not looking for a bator till after new year, I'm guessing I will have an extra few once the monster starts. I just font want to get rid of any until I know that one is up and running.

Assuming DH can fiddle wit it this weekend, I'm going to get a bunch of tj eggs and try them for the new years hatch. Anyone want a zillion tj chicks??
.
It just stopped raining here. Wonder how long that will last?

PS: car adaptors are also great for small incubator emergencies! and deb, MINE on the blue showgirl!
