California - Northern

Hey Amy sorry about the little ducky. I hope the rest of them stay happy and healthy.

Cheryl. I definitely need to tweak some stuff on these coops. I need MORE roost space and I agree with you on the 2x4's. Especially for the Brahmas.
Im excited to hear more about your Breese program in Cabo. This coming spring I'm gonna be doing my own Breese experiment with goats milk. I'm going to setup a similar area to what they would have had in france dedicated only for them.

Ron. I like frogs Lol I just hate those big toads you can't see at night time that you end up kicking because they are always in the way.
Someone told me my property is super fertile. That's why frogs like Boeing there. But I think if the duck snacked on them from time to time, it wouldn't be a bad thing.

About the coop PetRock found for me. I emailed the person twice yesterday and this morning when I woke up there was a voicemail from them telling me they have the coop still and i can come and get it. I'm going to go check it out after the winds slow down some.

Thanks PetRock. Hopefully its in good condition when I get there and can use it.

Ron the daily digest post is such a great idea. I promise you I said this to myself a few months back. Especially for those of us who cant follow the thread like we need to. Thanks for doing the daily digest!
Hopefully you can get that little coop. I like the way it looks. I want to build a breeder coop for single or pair mating. I may build a tractor too.

Home made bread sounds good, maybe I'll make some too if I can find the energy. Mine probably won't come out as good as Ron's though.  But it'll be good with chicken soup.

Now my rant.....I really am getting sick of being sick. I caught a cold (my kids too) just before Thanksgiving. It keeps evolving into new forms....... First a sore throat and basic head cold, then started coughing and lost my voice. Mike knows about that LOL, but now at least I have my voice back. A few days ago it turned into a chest cold and sinus pressure. Now the sore throat is back, I have a swollen lymph node on my neck, my ear is starting to hurt and I have a low grade fever (the fever came and went the whole time).

I may have to get antibiotics now (which I hate taking)...,this is ridiculous. So I'm here in isolation (no visitors) but the storm is going to keep us home anyway. My kid's both have a bit of the "cold" too. I think they keep bringing new germs home from school. I personally think elementary school is an Evil Experiment of Bio-warfare.

Oh, so far we are ok here storm wise. I did loose a pullet to a broken leg, she tried to fly over the fence because she was tired of being penned up. Sadly she broke her leg...she was one of my best blues this year.

:fl  everyone else will make it through this next storm.

I hope you feel better soon! :D

Sorry to hear about the little blue girl. That must have been a difficult loss. Hopefully we cam find something good to step up into her spot soon when everyone gets back to laying. I can't wait to hatch some beautiful blue babies!

I hope its decent. The ad on CL said its nit the same one pictured, but one made from recycled materials. I definitely have to get to building around here. Just even little spare coops just to have around for times like this.

I have been making bread since I was 12. It is very basic recipe, but I added malt powder and potato flour to it. This time I used sugar and canola oil. Sometimes I add whole wheat flour, black strap molasses and egg and peanut oil. I really need to make a batch every weekend. Also, I need to make something with my sourdough too.

send me a pm if anyone wants some of my starter.

We use Epicor here. Some of the mushrooms are immune boosters too. Growing up we had a use your own cup rule. Mom also rinsed the cups with a weak bleach solution.

Get well soon! I really feel like I'm fighting off a cold. The wind keeps waking me up at early hours!

Ron.
I loved as nor cal turns. The continuing storrry of chickens from the north.
My house smells like wet chicken. I'm going to cook dh favorite breakfast ( OK its my favorite breakfast but I'm not replacing chicken smell with fish smell no matter how much I love him) as a thank you for his good humor.
Cooper I'm thinking good thoughts for you. Closing is always rough but that sounds brutal.
Zoo sorry you lost a baby. They are all so fragile when young.
Cheryl sounds like a wonderful vacation. I'm starting to think I want breese it would be fun to do special diets. But its not easy to find powdered milk anymore I have been trying for cooking for a while.
Hope everyone is well.
Costco has powdered milk. I buy it. :D
