California - Northern

It's not a north/south geographic boundary, albeit there is a central area. What defines n/c/s is more a way of life, attitude, culture, political division. The central is more an agricultural oriented. The south more lay back and casual probably due to better weather. The north more cosmopolitan because of the San Francisco influence. However, there is the extreme north that is rural oriented. Than there numerous divisions within these three areas. Not to mention the native Californians vis-a-vis those that migrate here from other states and countries. Basically, it's hard to make a clear distinction.

It was a bright and sunny day in Northern CA, which often leads to a foggy morning this time of year. Drive carefully!

Cheryl had eggs hatch early. Very nice Tolbunt Polish. I use this chart and if I forget I often get into trouble:

PetRock has Langshans and should have some ready next Summer. Liz is happy and hopes she can get pullets only and not Breeding Trios.

My weak chick is getting stronger.

I am very minimalist with mine. I wash them as little as possible and I would never blow dry them. This one had a gimpy let too and it straightened out without banding.

Zooweemama has many eggs a day now! Lights are not necessary for hers!

I would like to thank Waititout for all the thumbs ups! Awesome!

Also, how did the boiled eggs turn out?

Cooper 12 is looking for Isbar eggs to hatch.

That is probably why he posted so much yesterday. Also I bet there were a lot of PMs too.

Lots of wonderful chicken pictures: Waititout, Happy Chooks, Miss Molly, Feathersprings and then Chiquita, whom shall have her own section.

Chiquita news(Thank You!):

Mario(DH) is working on a hatching App. Four Roos were processed. 35 girls picked up 4 Marans Roosters. Turkeys don't like their territory invaded by new comers. Mario was working on the place he sleeps when in trouble...oh that thing is a 600 egg incubator

Amy Beth, did you catch this? A Million TJs eggs will be set on Tuesday! I think it is a hoot when chickens steal eggs. They will do this when not broody too..Nice picture also of the Pazole.

Egg prices! What about Duck Eggs! Co Workers get a lot of eggs form us!

Jersey is getting better and burned a pile of brush. Coops will be decorated soon.

Zowweemama got her Silkie/showgirl delivery. The kids have claimed them! Sizzle/frizzle genetics were explained Amy Beth posted a picture of her Stock Tank Brooder. I need one of those...

Ron, of the 3 chickens I got- the one black feathery one wants to sleep a lot. Do you think she could be stressed? I'll put electrolytes in their water. The other 2 are alert . Especially the Show Girl.
I don't know. That one was always very calm but I did not notice a lot of sleeping.

Definitely give them electrolytes. Yesterday was probably stressful for them.

This was awesome. The 600 egg incubator is INSANE. That's some serious chicken math!

A million TJ eggs you say? Is that a real thing?

Last post for now lol. My kids named their chickens.

Show Girl roo - Phoenix
Silkie - Letters
Frizzle - Isabel

My 4 year old named hers Letters. ahaha So cute and funny. The kids are very excited to have a pet chicken. They were not allowed to name any chickens up to this point so they are excited to have their OWN chicken that is immune to the stewpot. haha!

I love my new little Partridge silkie chicks... hatched out over the last 2 days. They look like little balls of fluff! I had some very bad luck hatching and used my little Brinsea Mini for a hatcher this time. (still incubated in my styrofoam incubator), Cant wait to try my Brinsea 20 for my next hatch!

And I am relieved that my White Silkie pullet that was shipped to me and was injured during shipping is doing better and was able to be moved to the coop yesterday and introduced to the ""girls" They were all piled on the floor last night to sleep :) When she got here she was flattened out on the bottom of the box wings over her head and unable to stand. A rooster in the same box is limping but was ok. I feel sure the box must have been dropped. She enjoyed being a "house chicken" for a while :)

Such lovely Silkies!

Your partridge silkies are really adorable. I have one partridge pullet (9 months old and no eggs) named Cinnamuffin........she has the BEST type of all my silkies! I really want to start a partridge pen eventually. Where did you get your hatching eggs from? I plan on starting a hatch next week.

Aww, how sad about your new silkies getting injuries during shipping. But it is GREAT that they are doing better. The white one is very pretty.
