Cheryl, Yes, me too! I'm just a part-time admirer of all that you (and here I mean many of you do!) do! Can't follow the thread and keep in the conversation, but stop by weekly. This is the news I'm just catching up with. My hope is that something like Ronott1's experience comes your way!

Today's egg count- a good day. 11 duck and 5 chicken...1 of the chickens from a new layer...green EE layer. :D Woot!

Sold a couple dozen duck eggs today off CL. :D

How's everyone egg counts today?

Hatching updates?

Anyone with broodies?

Five eggs today and five yesterday!

2 of the 6 eggs are glowing too much. The other 4 have some possibilities!

The NYD Hatch-a-long is Crazy Busy!

I know! At least none of them are stinky.

This is day 7 for them, so we will know for sure soon.

They look like this on Day 9, so by day 10 your can see them darkening the inside of even the brownest eggs:

Trisha , Laura sorry about the hawks... so frustrating I know.
I am not sure about the air molt though it sounds like it would be possible.

Ron well here is the saying.
If a hawk goes after a chicken you try and chase him away or scare him off.
If a cougar goes after the chicken well he can have it

Not Hawk loss today though they are all in a covered run. it has stucco wire strips with heavy fishing line and reflective tape.
once I move I will build covered runs and free range on days I am there.
However if for some reason he gets in my run he is going to not be able to get out so hope he does not try it.

it should not snow with this storm but having a hard time keeping the water from freezing out there.
I plan on raising my new puppy once we get one along side the chickens but my wife will never allow a outside only dog.
If I let my two labs in the dog run well I wont have any hawks but may not have any chickens either. Freda in her younger years may be a hawker but now she is too old to care much.

I feel like I just post photos LOL

Well here is a story with the photos :)

Drew went into the barn to get a wrench. The critters always mob around the barn when you go in.

The heard him in the barn on the other side so they ran around!

Then they came around the other side and waited until he came out. No food this time but they will try again!
