California - Northern

So, I just joined BYC a while back, and just saw your post on the amazing barred rocks. I thought the story sounded all too familiar. We bought one of those BR pullets, and you are right! Super friendly - almost a "lap chicken" if such exists. She is doing well and she and our SLW get along great!

Thank you for stopping by to chat with us!

Oh yes! I remember drooling over your Wyndottes. The are such a pretty breed. I may have to get one just for eye candy. Not that I have room for more chickens around here. I'm going to have to work back and figure out what month the swap was and tell my partner and get more eggs, casue man they were fun.

glad you found us! we are a happy group here, lots of fun.

Also, I wonder how hard it would be to make your own on that fence. We built ours in the back and I don't think I could use premade bent thingies with our poles.. and that seems like I could use some.

welcome HippiAiti! i lived in oakland for many years before moving up here to Sonoma Co -- but only recently got into keeping chickens, so can't be of much help in that department.

but more news from here -- i took my camera down to the coop to snap a picture of Max guarding the would-be layer, Jane -- here they are:

and look! it's egg #2, still warm!

a little smaller than the first one and less shiny -- but wow, never any eggs before and then suddenly two in one day! and I'm SO pleased that Max is such a gentleman -- surprised he's not handing out cigars!
It makes me happy to see Max's proud face guarding his new girlfriend. I miss him, but I am thrilled to know this special boy got such a great home.
