Suer super happy!

Wow - you are on a ROLL!!! Two eggs in two days!

Are you going to blow out and save their first eggs? I am thinking of making Easter Tree ornaments out of my Silkie, d'Uccle, Partridge Wyandotte Bantam, Phoenix, Summatra and Light Brahma Bantam eggs - they are just so cute!

No eggs from your two girls yet, but they are loving the grass right now.

Congratulations! I'm getting 8-9 a day but less then half the girls who could be laying are and I'm convinced a group of about 4 are hiding theirs. On the upside, the hen that belonged to my daughter and her family, we took in because something got 3 of her 4 chickens and she doesn't have the time to start over, was standing in line to lay an egg on the second day she was here! Guess she's happy.
I took a bunch of photos yesterday and thought I would share them. These pictures are of my "Pet" pen, an eclectic group of mis-matched chickens breeds and a few other random shots.

They're all so beautiful! Love the Lemon Cuckoo Roo and the Crele Laced Polish Pullet! You don't see alot of those around. Do you have any for sale?

Yes from olive eggeers I hatched last year. Can't actually even remember where they came from. Someday they will get their own pen and then I would have some for you. But for now they are in with my Marans. What does a Marans roo over oe hen produce egg wise? Do they just get darker anyone know?
Crossing back to Marans, you will get some that lay darker olive and some that lay dark brown. Keep the birds with the pea comb for the best chances of olive eggs.

got a different-looking egg this morning, so now at least three of my girls are laying -- and this one is so beautifully speckled!
Beautiful egg! Congrats!

Oh great, it's getting to that time.... dubbing.

Handsome guy!

My questions was if it makes a difference if the pea comb is the roo or the hen. I have an Ameraucana roo that I'm going to be crossing with my blue Marans I got from Jeff to get OE. I lost my little Blue Marans cockerel from the same group, but my plan was to put him over my pea comb EE's and see if the results were different. So, you're saying it does make a difference who has the pea comb?

I was also wondering about these two cockerels I'm trying to rehome. They look identical except one has a pea comb. They look to me like they come from the same hen and all the offspring pullets from my hens with my Ameraucana roo and my hens have all been green egg layers so does that mean that both these boys should produce green laying offspring or just the pea comb boy? Sure would like to rehome these boys to someone on BYC. They're sweet boys, no aggression to us but they're stuck in my grow out pen most of the time because they have raging hormones and like to do "everything" together...if you know what I mean!
EE's are more difficult to use for olive eggers (especially roosters) because they are a mix and you don't know for sure if they carry the blue egg gene. (which is required for olive eggers) The only way to find out is to try and see what you get.

Gorgeous pet flock!

Quail can live in a cage in the coop? Give me the scoop on them - what do they eat, what kind of cage, how do they handle heat, how long do you brood them (under heat), how long do they lay for, etc. I have a storage shelf in my coop for feed that has extra room.

Dang my chicken math is kicking in. I'm setting eggs next week too, would be easy to sneak a few quail eggs in. (such pretty speckles!) I never thought I could have them here with all the wild critters, but if they can live in the coop...................

I'm bouncing off the walls!

It's been awhile since I got eggs regularly. I moved our laying flock to another coop when my girls who are now in their coop, were pullets, and then, moved my pullets to their coop.

Thanks, Sadly, I don't have any girls to go with my Lemon Cuckoo roo. I have been trying to breed a girl for him for 2 years with no luck. I have an 11 week old that looks promising. Fingers crossed its a girl. My roo is 3 years old, so time is ticking. Gotta find him a girl soon.

I do have a breeding pen of Crele Laced Polish (5 girls / 1 boy) . PM me and we can chat.

On phone. They take heat OK never had a problem but we areonly in sj. I have quails in the tops of my broody and breed coops. 1/2 wire 1/2 cover floor with sand for quail play.

They can get sick from chicken poo but no other issues sharing space so that's how I do it. I got the idea from the fact the chickens liked to hang out below the openquaul pens and clean up dropped feed and laze in the shade. Quail have no home since so can't free range anyway.

I wonder if you scared them when Minnie and Dixi disappeared .. yours said "um.. we better get to laying or we're next"??

I think the days are getting longer and the clocks are starting up on the hens again.. If all mine start laying I am going to be rolling in eggs soon. I will be selling 4 dozen EE/Brown eggs today - but I eat all the banty eggs myself - they are teeny!

What kind of feed do they eat?
