California - Northern

So even though I was only able to stay for a short time at the show yesterday, I really enjoyed seeing all the birds and getting to meet some of you. It was definitely an experience for my boyfriend, I think if we had the room we'd definitely be getting ducks too! I love seeing all the bantams, so beautiful and adorable. After seeing the full size roosters, the perfect little bantam boys made me want one so badly! I think the show just reinforced that I need to move to a place with a good amount of land, it's going to be hard to keep myself limtied to six chickens for that long!

The show was great. Never have seen so many HUGE chickens and so many tiny chickens. It was really nice to meet and chat Haileigh (waititout) and her husband. We didn't buy any chickens either, but the Serama seed has been planted for my youngest boy who fell in love with those little beauties. The roosters have such a diminutive crow that I think we can have a rooster or two and breed some mini-chickens for fun and pets for the kids. My husband, on the other hand, really liked the big boys. Brahmas and JGs and Orpingtons especially in blue.

Either way, giant or bantam, we would have to build another coop to accommodate any of these guys!

I took a few pics, but mostly for capturing the individual character of some of them. It's hard to take good pics when they are caged. The bars get in the way and there is not much for scale.

Some comb!

Some wattles! (Minorca)

Ho hum... little bored here.

Wishing4wings,

I know of two young boys who breed Seramas, Nankins ans Cochin Bantams. They have some nice little birds that do really well at our 4-H shows. You can probably find them much closer though.

ETA, also know of a breeder of nice Moderns up in Roseburg area.

I LOVED the Stockton Show! What a great place to learn and saw gorgeous birds!

I ended up buying a sale cage from a friend, and sold 2 cockerels!

I also bought a self blue OEGB pullet. Love her to death! I've never owned an OEGB, but I think I'm in love! LOL

You got some nice photos!!! Even though those bars were in the way, I was glad to have them being next to the big boys!

I think that is the one the owner handed to me and told me to hold while she played musical cages with her birds. She had put the OEG Self-Blue pullet and her White Wyandotte Bantam together - and Whitey wasn't having any of the little one. So, she took the OEG out again.. looked around - and handed her to me with a "Here, you hold her while I move the Sumatra Rooster". The bird was very calm for the most part, only put up a little fuss when I switched hands - and everybody wanted to pet her she was so friendly! Yes, a real sweetheart of a bird.

I love her! Her cluck is high-pitch and soft. She'll make a perfect Showmanship bird.
