Thanks Cheryl, that is the way we'll go. I PMed Deb but at that time she didn't have any. Beth wants a pullet/hen. I don't know if she's seen a tolbunt yet, but when I first saw them I sure thought of her!

Hi everyone! I'm not sure if we're really considered Northern California (I'm a Portland, Oregon girl, myself) but we recently relocated to Penngrove, CA. It's a rural community right by Petaluma and Santa Rosa. We have ordered 25 chicks from McMurray. They should be here the 19th or 20th of February. I'm really nervous about them getting here okay, seeing all the sad stories of people getting boxes of dead chicks. I ordered the heat pack for them and am hoping for the best. We are getting:

2 Black Australorp hens
2 Buff Orpington hens and 1 rooster
2 Columbian Wyandotte hens
1 Partridge Cochin hen and 1 rooster
1 Rhode Island Red hen
and 15 of the Brown Layer Assortment

I am also planning of getting 4 Silkies when the feed store gets them (hopefully! I heard you have to get there and wait in line before they open) which isn't until March 29th. Unless anyone in the area has Silike eggs or chicks they would sell?

Nice to meet everyone I've wanted chickens for about 20 years (since I was 5) so this is a long time coming and I am so excited!! I just hope the babies get here okay.

Welcome to Penngrove! We have lived in Penngrove for 26 yrs. and simply love it. It is filled with lovely, friendly people. Also, we are only about 25 min. from Napa which is a fun place to go specially during non-tourist season. Penngrove elementary, and Petaluma high school, are one of the nicest schools in N.Bay.

I am planning to start a Barred Orp project, and this guy is going to be my foundation roo. He hatched from my Crele Orp Proj girl covered by my Black (split for Lavender) Eng Orp Roo. I have hatched several BW cuckoo roos and a lavender cuckoo roo from this cross, but this is the first without Orange Leakage and clearer bars. I figured I would breed him to my black orp girls and then breed their female offspring back to him and see what happens.

He is 14 weeks in these pictures and he is huge. He is pictured next to a Cream Legbar, Basque, Welsummer and Dominique roos to give you an idea of his size.

Good Evening! Last night we did get some rain, it was a sunny but cool day, and now, the rain is pounding on the roof. I love the portrait of the chicken on your avatar. He is just very handsome; love his big comb, and large white ears. I have weakness for large combs. Which breed is he?

Wé are getting thunder and lighting Now. Very soothing. I think thé bird is some kind of OEGB. Im still doing some investigation into What breed hé is. But thank you for thé compliment. I like thé picture à lot as Well. I think hé looks very Majestic!

Hello everyone! We got an emergency staging to pack for so I stayed in novato and am on mY phone! So excuse my errors etc. Deer welcome! I have silkies but I have a waiting list atm ( how did this happen??) But I would recommend brooding them separate from your later chicks anyway. They are fragile at first especially if they have vaulted sculls. But I can let you know when I get caught up if you like.

The rain tonight was fantastic! I got to sit in the spa and listen to it and drink wine. And read about chickens with all you lovely people!

Missed rk you all and I will be more chatty once I get my pad back.

You might try looking in the dutch bantams, white earlobes on an OEG is a DQ (I think, not positive).
