Another dedicated lurker saying hi. What a beautiful day today. Love all the pics of babies hatching and sad to hear about the losses. Best wishes for future hatches and also prayers for family members dealing with cancer.

I also have a chicken health question. My small flock of almost 1 yr old chickens have had very watery stools for a few weeks now. They are eating and active, laying a bit sporadically, and have no other symptoms except one with a poopy butt. Do you think this is worms? I have injectable Ivomec for cattle/swine and wondered if this the best to use or should I get something else? Also, during the withdrawl time, do you toss your eggs, or can you feed them back to the hens or maybe to the dogs?

I do not toss with Ivermectin. I do not sell them or give them away because there is a small chance that someone may be allergic to it. It's the most commonly prescribe wormer for Humans with round worm. There have been a lot of posts about ivermectin not being effective any more but I do not believe it. It sounds like pharma propaganda. Mine tested worm free 10 days after treatment.

Have a Fecal Test to see it they have worms(they probably do). UCD Charges $10.50 and they got the report back to me in 2 days. Fill out the standard submission form and say fecal test for worms and coci. Mail in the sample, double bagged of course. IF Round worms use ivermectin. If Tape worms use one recommended for them.

There is an auction two times a month at Denios. You drop them off, fill out a form and you might even get a check later. In April a Small animal exchange in Orange Vale will start up again. It meets once a month on a Saturday and there is a guy that takes Roos there. If not, a local person takes them for her Rooster Rescue.

You can also sell them on CL.

Wow! Thanks! I have not been to Denios but driven by once and couldn't figure out what it was. I have lived in the area for a year and hadn't gone there yet.

Are you familiar with anyone that would process them? I have googled the heck out of it and searched BYC but haven't found anyone yet.

The only thing that made just a bit of sense was building up resistance if we eat the eggs from wormed hens. To me that does not make sense since the worms become resistant, I do not become resistant. The hens are getting the wormer, so the worms in the yard are becoming resistant if I eat the eggs or not. I really love eating and baking with those eggs....

The eggs are not going to hurt you if you eat them. You could feed them back to the flock if you build up too many because you are not selling or giving them to friends.

The eggs are from Wisher1000 and are a test hatch. She is experimenting with packing and shipping eggs. There is a thread for it https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/738943/the-great-egg-shipping-experiment

The are FBCM hens covered by an EE Roo or a FBCM Roo. I have Crele Pene and Blue Egg Layers incubating too. I will also get a batch of SG Dorking and Delawares to hatch for Kim soon.

I am getting BA eggs a the end of March from Here: http://hollyoakranch.com/ They are from three unknown lines and may actually be from an importation of the highly productive BAs that were originally imported into the US pre 1940. Those were lost to history but one importation was into California by someone with Deep Pockets. We are very excited about these BAs on the Australorp Thread.

The ladies are giving me almost 3 dozen a day now, they are stacking up fast.

I wonder if the worms are developing a resistance from over use. I've run into people that worm when ever anything happens, molt, loose stool, pasty butt, sneeze, you name it, they worm. I've never followed that logic.

I processed 5 of them in January. Last night I cooked Braised Rooster from a Dorkng X(It was a BA or a BR) It was one of the best things I have ever eaten!

My oldest DD that sells meat at a Farmers Market in Mountain View told me to not call the dish Braised Rooster. It was really a 4 month old Cockerel....

Dawg53 says it is because of people using Ivermectin for Mites and Lice.

If you have not used a wormer at your place, they are not likely to be resistant to Ivermectin. You would have to use the wormer for a long or sustained time at your place for resistance to build up. Any wormer will work like that.
