Quote: Sadly I do not know which of the four beat her up so badly.

She is much better today--The wounds look much better and she was chatting with me last night and this morning. The EO Basque is almost completely healed.

Chickens are tough boogers. With that amount of skin damage I would be down for days with lots of pain meds.

Strangely enough, I have been on this forum for almost two years and am only just now getting chickens. Had to fight with city council to get the Yreka ordinance changed to allow hens. But, they are now legal, and I am finally ready.

I grew up in a bedroom community in San Diego and didn't know what FFA was until college at Chico State. Still couldn't tell you what the four "H"s stand for with any accuracy. My first grader has been invited to join the Grenada 4-H, so I should probably learn. :)

You should get your kids involved in it, too. We could live vicariously through them to fill in our 4-H neglected childhoods.

That's exactly what I'm doing! We had our first meeting last night. I want to raise Silkies, angoras, milk goats, market pigs... I mean my daughter does. My daughter wants to raise them ;)

Wow, I'm impressed that so many actually KNOW how many chickens they have! I had to count as they ran out of the coops this morning and I don't even have that many!!!!

I have (I think):
1 Rhode Island Red (feed store)
3 Red Sex-Links (2 feed store, 1 from my daughter who got hers from a farm)
1 Black Austrolorp (feed store)
5 Black EE's
1 EE (Light Brahma/Ameraucana)
1 EE Silver Penciled
2 Blue Copper Marans (from Jeff Papabrooder)
1 Ameraucana Rooster
2 Splash Polish hens
2 WCB Polish Roo/cockerel
1 Silver Laced Polish Cockerel
1 Silver Laced Polish Hen
3 Black/WCB Black w/leakage Polish cockerels
2 Gold Laced Polish Pullets
1 Black Polish hen
1 WCB Polish pullet
1 EE White (Dominate White I think) Cockerel
Wow, only 29! I need more chickens!

I'm searching for a quality Black Copper Marans Roo from a dark egg. I have some more Blue and Black Copper Marans coming from Jeff Papabrooder. I'm also looking for some good quality WCB Polish and some other quality Polish to integrate into my breeding program for them. I'd like to add Pene, Emps and a few other breeds but am concentrating on the Marans and Polish right now, and of course my EE's but I have so many waiting for chicks that I don't know if I'll get any EE's to add this year...unless I can find an incubator, then I can have MORE!!!!! MORE!!! MORE!!!

The ladies are back at it strong. I think 6 new eggs today from pullets!! I think all BR and my 1 Buff orp/EE because today i got my first green egg!!! I am very excited () it is a really nice shade of green too. We got 8 eggs from 18 girls before Noon!

Wow, I've had roosters that would fight like that, but never females. I'm sorry and hope that they heal quick and that it doesn't happen again.

Shoot. Just went out to my broody hutch to find this.

Poor little babies wing has been pecked down to flesh, and all the feather are gone. I have no idea who could have done this. I doubt it was momma, so maybe siblings??

I separated the baby to a shoe box with a heat lamp, and cleaned the wound with diluted hydrogen peroxide, and benadine (spelling?).
S/he doesn't seem affected by this, as far as attitude. Just carries her/his wing lower than normal.
Anything else I should do?

Praying for Amy and her little chick. Poor thing is much, much worse than mine.

Dang! What a week.

The Bottle of VetRX seems to work very nicely. It is a bit pricey but will likely get a lot of use out of it.....
