Thank you there are 4 eggs still under her hope another chick or 2 is under her in the morning :)

Ha
Sorry Molly, I hate to break it to you.....but that first chick doesnt look pure Barnevelder. Maybe one of my hens had a fling with an alien chicken from outer space.

LOL, Just kidding you got some silkies in there too right?

Trisha

Yes, I sure do... I hatched several different breeds :) it was just so cute I had to take a picture...:)

Good Morning Everyone!!

Good Morning!

The Blue Egg Layers hatch is one of the weirdest one yet! The first one hatched on day 22 and this morning on day 23, 2 more hatched! The total is 5 with one more pipped. Each egg has pipped and then no action for 10 to 12 hours and then they finally zip. None are sticky or show signs of stress. I am really happy that this is not my first Rodeo.....I would be a nervous wreck if so.

I will get pictures when I can finally remove them to the brooder

Good morning! Looks like its going to be another awesome day...

Congratulaions Ron! That is weird. I her it happens, but I have never had a chick hatch after day 22.
Mine usually start the night of the 20th and finish up on the 21st. On Occasion I will have a Straggler hatch on the morning of the 22nd.
I always leave the remaining eggs in the incubator for another day or so, but never any luck.

Looking forward to pictures

Amy, I had a new chick with horrible pasty butt, once. The person who had incubated the eggs for me did some research and told me that some chicks look like they have manure stuck to them, but it's actually some undeveloped internal parts. She told me not to clean it, to leave it alone until the chick matured and then it would come off. I don't remember what it was called or the details. I did just let it dry up & it fell off on it's own. That chick was a very late hatcher and had trouble getting out of the shell. It ended up being a rumpless cockerel.
I thought that I would mention it because you can kill these chicks if you try to pull off what looks like manure but is actually part of their body.
yes watch that. I have seen that on a few of the ones I hatched.
I got my Barnevelder eggs from Trisha .... Some are blue laced. She has extremely healthy breeding stock. These little chicks came out running

love them!
so cute., I got my layer flock list Molly. I want a few Barnie's a few braebanters and of course some jarehorns. what time should I be down

just kidding though I would love some eggs from all of those for the layer flock. Jarehorns are the laying champs as far as eggs , feed and hardiness.

OMG they are cute! Can't wait til Mary and I get ours.

Quote: Yay, more blues for you! Hopefully no heat lamp issues this time. I'm loving the way my blues are looking!

So beautiful! Congratulations! At the Stockton show, my friend was looking for Welsummers. There may have been only one in the show, I think. You should show yours.
I go back and forth on showing. I've never shown any animal before. Part of me is so paranoid of bringing disease home. But I'd also love a critique from the judges.
Quote: Congrats!

Congrats Ron! That would make even experienced hatchers nervous.

Spring is in the air - lots of babies around!
