Quote: Thanks, I do like that cockerel. And he's still young, lots of pin feathers to fill in. I think he'll have an amazing coat of feathers when he's finished. He has quite the nice stance on him. And the little SPPR pullet, I wish her background color was a bit lighter and her legs were a bit brighter (although they are a nice dusky yellow), I'm looking forward to her head continuing to mature. But you're right, her penciling is very nice!
Hey all, I'm new to keeping chickens and my husband and I just picked up our first 3 girls from Miss Molly this evening. We picked up 3 cream legbar chicks, 2 typical coloration and one white girl. One of the girls looks like she is going to have the most amazing crest. Yeah, this is the start of an addiction...
Welcome to the addiction, welcome to BYC & welcome to the thread. You made an excellent choice on the Legbars and Miss Molly. When I collect eggs from them, the color makes me feel good just looking at it. And the boys are amazing, you slap crele coloration on anything and I'm in love!

Welcome!

Hello everyone.

We had a crazy weekend. A aquaponics class Friday, Fresno show Saturday and a forage kitchen dinner Thursday night.

The show was a lot of fun. Thanks for the info on the egg parents deb, that is exciting! The drive felt extra long however so I'm not sure f we are doing that one again.

I read most of this weekends thread in the car, where you can't really post so I missed a lot I wanted to comment on . I'll have to stick with good luck father/teacher and welcome new people!

Sunday I found out why I have been missing silkie eggs. Scalpie found a place to horde! There were 10 eggs in front of her and mario took a look under her and said she was full. Luckily I have a couple of people who want silkie 4 weeks old so she can keep her babies for a while. There was at least one pullet egg in there so I have at least 3 girls laying. I'm shocked she didn't try and sit on all of them, most of my broodies silkies have no off point.

My little Icelandic girl Lucy is laying. I have been debating keeping them icelandics are so flighty and I have no roosters. Her sister silver still wants to keep in the tree and has to be chased back to the coop.

For those of you who were interested in aquaponics, crazy fish guy ( otherwise known as john Parr) got invited onto a panel to review some of the fish keeping laws fr California. So tilipa may come back as an option.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Thank you!

I will try to keep my excitement to an occasional "are they laying yet?" every 5 months or so...

That is the egg color gene in Izzy? He is going to make some really NEAT EEs! He is still in quarantine because I don't have a pen to sort them out into yet for his "groupies".. have to get working on that next thing! He isn't as afraid of me walking around him any more - and he comes towards me when I bring the food and call him now instead of hiding in the back.

Welcome and what a good choice for chicks! Enjoy!
What happens when you skip a day collecting eggs because you are gone to a show? And you have an OCD number of chickens?

And I just heard someone out there singing the egg song! I only collected around midday...................and it doesn't count the four eggs I let Earlene keep because she seemed intent to sit.....................and she's a showgirl, what more can I say?

Love that green one! Only this forum would appreciate a picture of a bucket of eggs!
Thanks for your sympathies about the chick.

Me and my family need your prayers desperately.
My dad is a High school P.E. teacher. He tried to get between two boys that were going to fight. One was a 6 foot tall bully, and my dad is only 5 feet. He told the kid to knock it off, and got between them. The big kid grabbed my dad's arm, and tried to shove him out of the way. My dad's hand hit the kids tooth accidentally and made it loose. Then the bully proceeded to pick up my dad, spin him up-side down, and ram him against the chain link fence. My dad grabbed the fence, and held on. He called for help and a few other students got between my dad and kid, and held him back.
He came home with blood all over his face, his hand swollen. The bully however only has a loose tooth.

The district is trying to fire my dad, because it is easier to "get rid" of the teacher, then punish the student.

We welcome your prayers.
Thanks
Awe, I'm sorry you lost the chick. Probably something wrong with her digestive system. I'm really sorry about your Dad....teachers don't just get to teach anymore. All my friends that are teachers right now have chosen to teach younger kids so they don't have to deal with the older kids who's parents can't even manage! Good luck and I hope the union backs him, but I don't have much faith in unions. Hope he has a good representative.
Here are a few shots of some of my birds at the show this weekend.

Blue Ameraucana cockerel (hatched from a swap egg from MrHeinz)

BC Marans pullet

bantam Columbian cochin

Lakenvelder pullet

New Hampshire pullet

Porcelain silkie

Rhode Island Red (young guy, he's going to be a moose)

Silver penciled PR (will be a handsome guy if he ever grows a tail!)

SPPR pullet

Yup, they lay moss green eggs, sometimes with little brown speckles. Beautiful eggs! I'm glad to hear he's settling in, always nice to find a good home for a roo that isn't necessarily in the deep freeze.

Your dad needs t press charges against the student, if he has not already. And if the school tries to fire him, I would call a lawyer and a reporter. But that is just me.
