One of the Olive Egg laying pullets hatched from eggs Chiqita gave me is inspecting the nest box!

Olive colored egg(I hope) any day now!

So far I am impressed with the Bresse. The one thing I am waiting for is to see how they do in the heat here. I will know soon enough!
They are a much slimmer bodied bird than I'm used to. But maybe mine just need to mature more. I'm not exactly sure how old they are. We got them 4 weeks ago and the were around 3 1/2 months old. Most of our other birds are wider in the body/chest/etc. I frequently find myself singing the "I like big butts" song! I never realized how much I love my wide bodied birds until now! I keep thinking that my Bresse are not eating enough!

I did see them but did not get a sense of Gender from them. They are EEs? Watch for red on the wings. Rooster pattern for sure!

It's harder with rose combs. The best thing is to watch the wattles. They should not grow much or turn pink until 12 weeks or so. Also, the comb should stay whitish for the same amount of time.

With chicks, I let them reveal themselves to me. There will either be a crow or an egg at some point. I love the Auto Sexing breeds though!

thanks :) You think my Bebe is a roo, right? Huge!! Got the shoulder feathers fast & getting a thick row of feathers in a line down the back toward the tail feathers.

The wide body can be deceiving. How is the breast developing?
Hmmm...have to catch them to check. They are not quite sure of me yet. You would think that they would get a clue from the big girls. They mob me every time I go out in the yard. I know that the cockerel doesn't have a very deep chest. He does not have an upside down bowler hat profile. But he is young still!

Yes, Bebe looks like a roo. I always hope they aren't unless they are going to be dinner some day!

I do like knowing where my food comes from.

It sounds like most of my hens are singing the egg song right now! OMG! It was a bit Pitchy Dawg!

I treated my girls with Wazine yesterday and besides the extremely loose stools, they all seem to be fine...except my brown leghorn. She has been carrying her tail low and to one side all morning. I just caught her in the coop looking really sad and this is what I found in the nest box.

Do you think this is a result of worms or the medication?

From the Worms. She should start laying better soon.

If you have an Health store close by, Pick up some kelp granules. Mix it with their feed. I give mine 1/3 cup mixed into enough feed to fill their feeder. You can also give them 1/3 of a cup of Food Grade DE mixed into the feed along with the Kelp Granules. DE is a good source of fast acting calcium.

Worms chew up the egg laying tract of the hens. Worms can make pullets sterile.

Thanks I'll keep my eyes out for kelp. What is a name of a store you have found it? Maybe I can see if there is one nearby.

I got it from Azure Standard. The Davis Coop has it and it may be at Whole Foods too.

It has a lot of great things in it!
