Kitchen thermometers are not always accurate. Or at least mine was not. But incubator ones can be off too. Any chance at dropping off at the store and getting an accu right? I'd check the temp. Do you ha e still air or fan?

I keep hoping for someone to go broody. I guess they just don't want to start yet, last year I couldn't get them out of the nest boxes, I'm sure they will do it again.
Cleaned the new babies tank this morning and tried to get a couple of pictures before it was a mess again. 5-7 day old BLRW, I need to figure out who is throwing the SLW marked chicks.

You think Petco maybe? The feed store here doesn't have much in the way of reptile supplies. I will see if I can find something..... thank you!Yes, put a thermometer at egg level that reads in tenths. Adjust the setting by a couple of tenths and wait an hour or two between adjustments.
Look for one at a pet store--the type they have for reptiles.
I was in Pet s Mart last week and they had a wide selection in the reptile section. You think Petco maybe? The feed store here doesn't have much in the way of reptile supplies. I will see if I can find something..... thank you!
An Acu right? I actually have one of those too, and I had it in there, but I have no idea which one is really accurate! lol I have the new Genesis 1588 Hovabator with the fan and temp gauge and humidity readout, which I noticed fluctuated all night! Even the slightest temperature change in the room changes the humidity right away it seems. The temperature remained fairly stable, even if it may not be correct at egg level.Kitchen thermometers are not always accurate. Or at least mine was not. But incubator ones can be off too. Thanks! I will run over there after work!I was in Pet s Mart last week and they had a wide selection in the reptile section.
Quote: Look for instructions for calibrating the thermometer.
The eggs will be ok if they are a bit low for more time than too high. They die very quickly when the temp is over 101.
I thought that might be what you thought. My blue and black laced BLRW chicks always have the stripes, and most of the splash laced babies too. After I read Tommygirls reply I realized my mistake. SLW lf are chipmonk marked, SLWb's are marked like the my unstriped chicks with the lighter wings. My thoughts are based on many hours watching the babies at the feed store and the bantams we special ordered, I could be wrong.
