Haha of course there was a thread. Thanks Ron now I am saying in my head "Pen in duh sinka" to help me remember.

How about "Crele" and is it a color or a feather pattern?

The Spanish name is: Barrada (Crele), Jason said Creel so I will go with that.

Why does it take me THREE days to catch up on this thread whenever I miss ONE day?  Finally caught up, but I won't be on tomorrow, so it will all start again.

Question for those who have let broodies raise chicks...How long will mama take care of them?  Chicks are almost 5 weeks old, and mama is starting to spend more time away from them, but the chicks act like they need her.  She does come back.  Also, she has started roosting at night.  1 chick can get up there, but the other 2 can't get up all the way.  I feel like they don't have the feathers to be out all night, yet.  If I put the chicks back in the brooder, mama hops down and joins them.  Thoughts?

I am curious to know this too, think my chicks are 3 weeks old and they don't follow mama all the time.

I received so many good responses over the weekend, but this site has been totally wonky with my phone and I was unable to properly respond. Thank you guys so much for all the great advice and support! I am sooooo lucky to have found this thread!!!

Depending on the mum, I have seen 4-10 weeks usually 4-6. Some will leave them too soon and you have to check on them, some Barbie them and you will see full grown marans roosters trying to hide under their silkie mums who cluck at them like chicks.

In the Icelandic thread there is a picture of Lukka, one of the original Icelandics in the thread, sitting on her almost full grown baby. It's hilarious.

Lol that would be so cute :) I'm almost ready to put her back with the others and bring chicks inside so I can tame them.

I've got BC Marans in the incubator now. I just sold the last batch last weekend. The first guy out took them all. My egg color has been pretty good and my breeding group have done fairly well at the shows.

I don't have the other breeds you're looking for, but do have "reject" Araucana that will work as EE's. Reject only because of being clean faced and sometimes a tail. The last two I hatched out (one yesterday) is going to be a blue. They do lay a lovely blue egg. I'm in El Dorado Co.

Do you have West Nile virus in your area? That would be my biggest concern.
Deb, those eggs are gorgeous!!!!

Tha" how I have been pronouncing it in my head.

Barrada eh....hmmm "ada" is the Spanish ending for "ed" Maybe Barrada translates to barred???

Still confused about the definition. I have searched in a variety of ways and have been unsuccessful. Thanks
