Mario brought a huge wooden box from engine parts I am going to use as a brooder. I think I'm going to try the sand litter box method. Now I just need to fin a big scoop that will pick up tiny poo.

You may want to try looking in the reptile section of a pet store. They sell metal litter scoops especially for sand and I think it's fine meshed enough for your needs.

Quote: His comb looks bigger every morning! I'm glad we could get the little dark one. Her comb hasn't grown at all. YAY! Too bad the other little white one had been spoken for.

After fending off sparring attacks from the hulk, she is always busy scratching every last speck of food out of the dish.

Also, we found out from the jr judge that scissor wing is when the secondaries cross to be forward of the primaries when the wing is vertical. It makes a little open V notch in the line of the wing. Minus 5 pt deduction, and he said not to breed. Must be hard to get rid of.

Do these guys look familiar?

I think the judge fits right in with the frizzled look!

Good morning everyone

I have not seen pictures of your Bielefelders since they were little chicks! I bet they look very nice at 20 weeks.....

My Bresse pullet is checking out the nest box very seriously too. I expect to see an egg from her soon!

She is the sister to Chiqitas Bresse.

These are the most recent pictures I took about 2 weeks ago. They just went through a growth spurt and have really picked up weight. The pullets wattles are starting to drop now.
This might be a very early maturing breed compared to most heritage landrace breeds.

I cant wait until you have that breese taste test. I havent heard anything about the meat quality. Im really interested in that

Ohh the biebs! Serious lust. Maybe I can try and bribe you with bresse eggs! There was a soft fart egg in the box this morning!! I'm going to have to put in the nest even in the mud I think, lol. Bresse seem to do best when poached or cut up according to the tradition. Or salt baked. They are not a roasting chicken. I haven't learned to poach chicken, but I can salt bake with the best of them.

Quote: By poaching, do you mean the Chinese method--put the whole chicken into water, bring to a boil and turn off heat after putting a lid on the pot and leave it I for one hour?

Makes great enchilada meat...I bet the Bresse would be great braised in my Pressure Cooker for 15 minutes. I cooked a Dorking X Marans that way on Sunday. Everyone loved it!
