NOW we know Ron's Secret Recipe for hatching girls!

Get the eggs from juststruttin! I guess the Egg Laying Industry isn't going to offer you that job any more Ron, sorry.....

From those numbers I would guess he has a CL hen that throws girls.. an a CP hen that throws boys?

Oh, no! I'm so sorry that you have a sick one and I totally empathize with you!

How is she doing this evening?
She's hanging out in the downstairs bathroom, laundry room has 7 chicks. She's not as yellow but still pale. I listened to her and all I hear is her heart, she has always had a different voice-brahma thing-part of the reason I like them so much.

Last time I went it to check on her she just gave me stink eye for turning on the light and waking her up.

If there is a common theme.................don't sweat it.................chicks are WAY more resilient than we give them credit for.

Good luck with your hatch...............and quail do start popping like popcorn.  They don't rock a lot and you probably won't hear them like you do at times with chicks.  They just start popping out.

And edited to add...................I just use a small LED flashlight from Walmart with the highest lumens I can find.  My current one is 200 lumens.  I taped some foam pipe insulation around the end so it cradles the egg and contains the light.  It's so bright I could probably cande your eggs for you from my house if you held them up, ;)   I like using a flashlight because you don't even have to pick up the egg, just touch the top while in the incubator.  I only open the lid high enough to slip in my arm.  For really dark marans eggs, I pull them out and use two flashlights, top and bottom.  I can see through ANYTHING.

Lol thanks Deb! About item #3 I started to see the trend. Don't sweat it! I get it! I really do! I am just hoping I didn't burn my popcorn!!!

So something you said about the carton thing kind of concerns me. You mentioned that once they start hatching and playing football with the eggs that hatch rate drops fast. Does the rubber mat help at all with that? I am tempted to put them back in the carton, but I won't risk opening it at this point.

The quail carton held the eggs so tight there just wasn't much room. When I do the chicken eggs I will do the carton thing.

Edited to add. They had a 3 pack of 240 lumen led flashlights for about $25. I am going to try them and see how they do. Costco is my favorite.

Yes! Dean needs to figure out which hen is throwing more girls and the the ones that are trowing boys. Trap nesting and marking the eggs is what people do. Usually the hens are close to 50% but some are not.

Yes, the hen determines the gender in chickens, not the roo. It is backwards from Humans. You must have a CP hen or two that throws girls. Which ever ones that were laying the eggs you sent me that hatched all girls are the ones.

Lots of people get this one wrong!
Ron, Its so funny, because when you hatched my OE eggs you got all girls and I got almost 9/10 boys. I hope they switch back to all girls soon. I am going to set another batch to see what if the ratio gets better. Urg.

I did have the best hatch I have had in a really long time. Of the 93 that went into lockdown 86 hatched. Of the ones that did not hatch, two pipped and died and the others never pipped. I recently bought a Dickey and it took me a couple of hatches to get the humidity and temp just right. I am still hatching the eggs in my HB Genesis because I want to keep the cabinet clean.

I had 6 of 7 hatch as boys lol

Man did I just have a long drawn out hatch!! I had chicks hatch on day 20 through day 23

I attribute it to the power failure and egg cool down for that hour. The last chick had to be helped out and was in rough shape but is just fine this morning

That was not any easy feat!

Those little buggers are fast!

Some of the buff chicks have wheaten penciling coming in on their wings. Must be chicks out of my Blehm buff hen. Blehm used wheatens to improve his buffs. Meredith (I have two of his buff hens) used blues I think to improve his buffs. The brown chicks have a grey blue under fluff so I am very curious to see what color those will end up being. Whoever ends up with those 2, I hope they will keep me updated with pictures

These are going to be some really pretty chickens
