Jean (Pips&Peeps) is going to send me some eggs from her Silver Ameraucanas. I need to remind her

Linda (Sweet Water Poultry) used to have them. She sold her flock but can give you the contact info on who has them now. She said they are on the small side. That has been a problem with the silvers and is why Jean bred hers to her black Ameraucanas and still considers them in the project stage. The chicks will be the 3rd generation and should be some beauties!

Is silver duckwing different? I was told to use silver duckwing on my project

we planted some ourselves.
3 green panda bamboo ( 6x6 clumping ) Fargesia rufa Green Panda hardy to minus 30
1 varigated mountain bamboo. not really sure what it is

1 yushania anceps ( hardy clumper to 10-12 feet )

next week I have 1 more green panada and Yushania anceps to plant
plus Borinda Boliana ( Himalayan Blue bamboo )
My super rare mountain clumper that gets Blue culms. one of the tallest cold hardy clumpers







and 3 clumps of Black stripe Timber Bamboo ( this stuff runs and I need to choose spots wisely as I have areas that hold moisture and I do not want a forest. Though it makes awsome groves.)

oh and 2 magnolias a Japanese Lilac tree , noble fir irises and a few pines I grew from seed ( like I need more pine trees though

Jason, you place is looking awesome!!!! The bamboo will be great. Good idea. You're daughter is really cute? Do your kids like the chickens? My kids are 14 and 18 and can care less. They used to enjoy them when they were young, but now they roll their eyes when I tell them the chicks are hatching. I occasionally will catch my 18 year old sitting by the brooder holding one

I used to incubate and hatch in the HB until I got the Cabinet bator. The HB's work great for both. The only reason I don't hatch in the cabinet is hatching is a total mess and I don't want to clean the cabinet, also I do staggered hatching in the cabinet and its hard when hatching eggs and incubating eggs need diff %.

FYI, make sure you put a little Oxine in the water when you put eggs in lockdown. The water can get pretty stinky fast. The oxine will keep bacteria from growing. I don't know where you can buy oxine locally. I order mine on line. I think the last bottle I bought was from Amazon. I have only seen it in gallon size but maybe you can find it in smaller bottles. A gallon lasts FOREVER!

Does anyone use anything other than Oxine in the water? Bleach, vinegar? Perhaps something that can be found in household arsenal.

Can someone tell me how to get your hatch rate? Is it percentage of eggs that hatched from initial total or total at lockdown?

Total hatched divided by total set.

You know what might work for the sides is shade cloth. My husband made some panels to hang on the sides of my lower chicken pen. It has a roof, but the rain would blow in. When the weather is good I keep them rolled up and when it rains I can lower them like a shade. They let some air through for ventilation but keep the rain out.

Thanks for the pics.. I have been considering some panels like this for my run to provide some shade at times of the day. Hadnt thought about using this material for rain as well...
