California - Northern

I currently have a D5000, several lenses, and a Nikon flash unit.

We (the hubs and I) go up to Redding occasionally to visit a church up there.

I have a question for all the chick experts. We have nine chicks. One of them has had the runs since we brought it home. It doesn't look sick, and is actually one of the spunkiest chicks in the brooder. I keep checking her vent and it's not pasted up. Should I be concerned? Is it just the ceacal poo? Almost looks like watery peanut butter. I don't see blood. I haven't seen any solid-ish poops come out of her though. Everyone else's poo is normal. They are on a mix of medicated chick feed and 7-grrain cereal (thanks Chickee!) from the health food store that they LOVE. They also have the vitamin additive in their water.

Any input?

Oh, you've got some fun equipment. All I have is my D50 and 18-200mm Nikkor VR. I can't even afford a flash unit hahah! I guess that just comes with being a student who can't get a job. But, I make do with just the camera/lens! Natural lighting is my friend.

Welcome BCollie!

I'm headed your way this weekend. There is a show in Red Bluff on Saturday.

I'll be in MEXICO on Saturday

Bah, double post! (again I say, I smite you, tablet!)

I should note that the chick with the runs is a Golden Laced Wyandotte from the feeds store. They other two from the feed store and their farm raised brooder-mates are thriving.

I'm getting there. You use what you have, and use it well, that's what makes a great photographer, not having the best of the best. I'm currently salivating over the new D700's, but until I get that kind of income, by little D5000 serves me well. Natural light is great, lol and it's free and you don't have to plug it in or pop in the AA's.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/coccidiosis-how-to-treat-it

I treat with corid, 20% soluable powder. The active ingrediens is amprolium.

Dosage is 1/4 tsp per quart of water for 5 days. Make a new batch each day.
Treat at 1/2 strength for another 5 days so that they can build up resistance.

Make sure they are all drinking the water and that it is their only source.
