Oh, you've got some fun equipment. All I have is my D50 and 18-200mm Nikkor VR. I can't even afford a flash unit hahah! I guess that just comes with being a student who can't get a job. But, I make do with just the camera/lens! Natural lighting is my friend.

I'm getting there. You use what you have, and use it well,that's what makes a great photographer, not having the best of the best. I'm currently salivating over the new D700's, but until I get that kind of income, my little D5000 serves me well. Natural light is great, lol and it's free and you don't have to plug it in or pop in the AA's.

I treat with corid, 20% soluable powder. The active ingrediens is amprolium.

Dosage is 1/4 tsp per quart of water for 5 days. Make a new batch each day.
Treat at 1/2 strength for another 5 days so that they can build up resistance.

Make sure they are all drinking the water and that it is their only source.

Really? You think its cocci? There's no blood in it. The chick is happy-go-lucky and sassy. Can you get the corid stuff at any feed store? Should I seperate the chick from the rest? First time momma freaking out!

My call ducks have started to lay!!!!!!!!!!!!  I found four eggs in their pen today.

Now, if the mandarins would start to lay.  I keep hoping to look in the pen and have the mandarin hen missing (in the nest box).  So far no go.  But they are constantly flirting and nuzzling each other.  And the male is in full nuptial plumage.

I started with a D80 and kit lens. Your gear builds slowly as your knowledge base and skill does. I have some good gear now but I maxed that D80 out. Still have it too! Your next lens purchase should be a 50mm. Mmm! My yummiest and most used lens- excellent and fast in lowlight.

I've dealt with cocci and never ONCE did they have blood in their poop. Weird but true for me. Corid made them all better.

Love natural light! It's so my favorite. Especially low light...and black and white photography. It's my icing. haha

Sorry for just popping in to ask questions so much but I have another and this one is kind of time sensitive....I ended up with 17 chicks, first one hatched Sunday morning and the last one last night. Everyone seems good and healthy, moving around (the little WCP that hatched last night is still a little slow but think it's normal for it's age) and ready to go to their new homes tomorrow. But one of the first hatched has a bump about the size of a small marble on the right side of it's chest. I'm assuming it's the crop. It's not hard and when I palpate it seems to break up but not completely. The chick seems normal otherwise. I felt all the other chicks chest and this one is about three times larger then the fullest crop in the other chicks.

So what's going on? Over ate? The start of an impacted crop? Tumor?
