Well the broody bug has almost hit my flock. I have several hens now plucking their breasts and growling. None are sticking to the nests yet.

I might put some more eggs in the bator so that I can stuff some babies under hens later this month:) I hope to fill a few more egg orders too, but I am getting tired of shipping eggs.

A nice picture of my favorite blue hen's lacing:)

Amazingly beautiful!

LOL, I kind of want to stop shipping eggs and just let the hens go broody. I need a break already! It's a pain keeping up with everyone's orders etc. I love to let the hens raise my replacement breeders too. The broody raised chicks are better adjusted and seem to grow better than my brooder raised chicks:)

they are SO beautiful!!

so here's a future-reference question -- my two new Amelias are in their little "transit lounge" pen, in view of the rest of the flock but also in quarantine -- but once it's time to introduce everyone, i've never done this with a rooster present. will Max be able to protect the new girls from too much hazing from the existing flock, or are they still in for a rough time? (or something in between those two poles?)

thanks!!

That is good for me. I am setting some eggs and won't be ready for a little while anyway. I don't need a pile, just maybe 6 or so. What do you get when you hatch out the Red Star eggs? Ray the wonder roo! Ha Ha!!! That is funny. I have limited space so I don't want to hatch out a pile and then try to find homes or freezers for them all. :) I just want enough to hopefully get one or two hens out of the hatch.

Cool I have no idea what Ray and on of my RS girls ( Vivian and Boom Booom) will produce but I hope to let you know in about 23 days...setting eggs on friday :) I for sure will post pics here and you can tell me then if you want some of that action

We will be in touch. I am happy to think my flock can contribute to yours :)

When I have integrated its always a gamble. If you have a good rooster he won't allow the girls to fight much - but he will mount your new girls and they might be inclined to put up a fuss. Pecking order must be established - and that is always noisy. It usually settles down in a couple of days though. I like to put them together at night after the quarantine is over - sometimes talking to each other all night makes for less trauma.... then again - sometimes not.
