California - Northern

Well the broody bug has almost hit my flock. I have several hens now plucking their breasts and growling. None are sticking to the nests yet.

I might put some more eggs in the bator so that I can stuff some babies under hens later this month:) I hope to fill a few more egg orders too, but I am getting tired of shipping eggs.

A nice picture of my favorite blue hen's lacing:)

That is some amazing lacing. It looks like a pencil drawing, its so distinct! You have some lovely edging on those blue feathers too...

One of my blue Silkies decided to go broody a few days ago - she is sitting tight. I really enjoy it when they do all the work!

Quote: Nope, not fake. She just ended up with really fancy lacing

I hope you didn't think I was saying it was fake, just so perfect it looks fake!

In fact, that shot would look good as a print on a wall.
No worries

I didn't think you were implying that...but I couldn't fake it I tried. About the only thing I can do on my ancient computer is crop pictures, LOL

I wish I had a nice camera like Nikon and Zooweemama (sp?). My camera has a hard time capturing the lacing. It takes dozens of pics to get a single pic that comes close to being a good pic.

I do wonder though - if you pull the feathers they grow back. If you trim they stay trimmed until the next molt. Maybe trimming would work better for longer? Those I have read that "trim" really do cut them - not pull them out. And from their comments it does work to just trim.

That is good news!

It would not be too bad to trim once a breeding season.

Thanks for all the comments and thoughts.

I looked at the pictures on your thread and agree about the wound. Black or angry red and puffy are bad. Also, a sweet smell would be really bad.

They do not eat a bunch at first when they get hurt that bad. They are in shock and it takes a couple of days for them to pick up eating. So far she is healing nicely. Keep up the good work with her!
Thanks Ron for checking these pictures. I'm really encouraged to hear that it seems to be bruising. I also got an egg from her today! Tonight was day #3 of antibiotic treatment but I'm thinking of doing one more day just to be sure. She wants to hang out with her buddies so bad, maybe I will let her tomorrow for short supervised periods. I am absolutely amazed at how quickly the new skin formed! Its only been 3 days and there is already a light layer of skin over the entire wound. Incredible! I will be so happy if she pulls through.

Took some fun pictures today, I hope you guys get the smile out of them that I did.

Clementine was telling me she wants to start a rooster taming business
Thanks for sharing these wonderful pictures!

My brain is working the chicken math to add one to my flock, they are just stunning!
