California - Northern

Oops, chicken accident!
I called Higby's about 6 or 7 weeks back and talked about ordering Quail d'Anvers, but in the end decided not to because I found Sebrights available immediately (and I have been working part-time now and will be working full-time in the near future, and wanted something quickly so that I could spend as much time as possible with my chicks while they were little). Well apparently Higby's, without calling me, ordered the d'Anvers. So they called me this morning to say that they have 12 d'Anvers chicks waiting for me. What!?
If anyone in NorCal wants a few of these little guys, please give them a good home. I'm debating whether or not to go and get 2, although I already have the 4 6-week old Sebrights (and 1 is a roo that needs rehoming)! I guess chickens really are addictive...
How old are the d'Anvers...still in the brooder? Do they need to be picked up? I'm not familiar with Higby's. Also, how much does each chick cost.

My son really wants to start raising Quail d'anvers. He saw some at the State Fair last year and we couldn't find any to buy (or hatch) anywhere. We're driving down to Arizona this weekend but if you still have them next week, I might be in a better position to consider getting them. His birthday is coming up and a little flock of his own might be really a nice gift.

Please let me know if someone else gets them too so I won't be wondering. Thank you so much, Darla

Do all mind if I ask you for breed/gender guesses? I am not having any luck on the what breed/gender forum. These are the bantams we got when we were trying to take care of the weak one that died:

Hunka-Munka:

Tom Thumb - I'm assuming they're both OEG of some sort, but any idea what he/she'll look like?

So I was so sure Lefty was a girl, but all the sudden this comb pops up - there isn't much hope he's a she, is there?

Here's Nugget, who is the same age (and I'm sure is a Roo. He's had the comb at least a week longer than Lefty)

And then we have this one:

Well the broody bug has almost hit my flock. I have several hens now plucking their breasts and growling. None are sticking to the nests yet.

I might put some more eggs in the bator so that I can stuff some babies under hens later this month:) I hope to fill a few more egg orders too, but I am getting tired of shipping eggs.

A nice picture of my favorite blue hen's lacing:)

Oh they are beautiful! Drat another chicken added to my "must have" list!

I actually have no idea. I'm not sure how old they were when I got them and I don't remember when I got them! I was in a little fog of grief. I should go back and figure it out.

I don't mind roos, if they're nice. If not they will be tasty.

Lefty and the last one, Tuck, are sweethearts. The red one (Nugget, who I named that because he was mean from the get-go) not so much.
