Pagan, how is the baby with the wonky legs? did he make it?

Hey, sorry, I've been away from my computer for most of the past couple days. Sadly it didn't make it, poor thing just couldn't lift it's body off the ground let alone walk or stand. An odd thing happened though, as I was disposing of the remains and the rest of the unhatched eggs I heard cheeping. I thought it was the chick but it turned out to be one of the unhatched eggs! The last egg hatched Wednesday! So I put that final egg in the incubator and we'll see what happens with that one.

Shantih, thank you for all the comments on my chicks! It is fun to watch them develop and to guess what they are! The FBCM egg was in the center of the incubator so I don't think that it was a cold spot. Did you decide whether all of the Silver Leghorn chicks that you are are really that? I'm pretty sure that the 2 we have are Cream Legbars but here are pics of them. One has a crest started but the other one doesn't. Are they CLs???

One more set of pics. I have four Welsummer chicks that I got from Shantih (chiqita). One is definitely a boy, one is definitely a girl, and 2 I'm not sure of but leaning towards girls. The boy has lots of red coming on him and the other three have almost identical coloring when in the sun. Chick 2 might be slightly darker than chicks 3 & 4. These are the first Wellies that I've had so I'm not very confident on sexing the questionable ones. They are around 6 weeks old.

I read a recent post said to move the eggs around in the incubator every once in a while. The only place that seems to have a hot spot is next to the turner motor in the Genesis. The Octagon 40 has 4 fans--I bet there are no hot spots in it....

Happy hatching!

I think chick 2 might be a boy. You will know in a week or so. The others look like pullets.

Is there a color pattern difference we should be looking for too?

I'd say a boy and three girls.

I sure hope that you are right! It would be nice to have a quad! I wasn't really thinking about breeding them but they are such nice chicks. The Wellies and the supposed CL's are the darlings of the brooder. The FBCM mixes are the terrors! Of course, a large number of them are boys so that might be the difference.

I looked online at Tractor Supply.  All they had was 2 in and 1/4 in hardware cloth.  They also didn't show it in longer rolls.  Maybe I'll call the closest one in Dixon to see if they have the longer rolls of 1/2 in.

I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off all day. ( hardy har!! Knee slapper)

Sorry..... Bad humor I know. Had a couple Hurricaines tonight so you know, instant comedian, just add alcohol.

Anyway I was researching this exact thing a few months ago, and someone mentioned wayfair.com. I think I got two rolls of 36in. x 100ft, not sure of the guage, for about $97 each. No tax or shipping if I recall correctly and they delivered quick too.

However, I may be a little off on the numbers. I do think it was under $100 though.

I don't have Amazon prime so Amazon was more for me, and the delivery to my door was priceless since I am by myself. That stuff is heavy!!!!!!

Hello! I'm new to backyard chickens and new to incubating eggs...does anyone out there know about Barnevelders fertile hatching eggs in the Sacramento area? I know Trisha up toward Redding, but wondered who else out there loves Barnevelders :). Currently, I have 3 Amercaunas, but am hoping to hatch some Blue Copper Marans and then in early May some Barnevelders. I'm so excited to have found this site!
