California - Northern

Thanks for the extremely kind offer! And I may just take you up on that. Right now we have our hands full with the ducks and the geese on the way. We are busy constructing the pens and various coops AND planting (we're a bit behind this year ). I'm guesstimating we will be ready for new chicken friends in 4 - 5 weeks. Is it ok if I message you around then (assuming I don't find a boy on my own) ? Sorry bout the lip :( At least your lil fella consoled you. What a sweetie!
Yes! Definitely. We also may be rehoming some of our sweet BO girls (we have six, we could rehome 3) if you are wanting older chicks. I think they'll start laying in June or July. They are hatchery (McMurray) girls, but I think they're perfect

You are welcome to PM me any time. Hope your coop building goes well!

My chickies moved out to the coop - tonight is their first night out there! I miss them. The bantams are very happy to have the brooder to themselves, though. (Chiquta, the chicks from you have their own cozy brooder of course, they weren't with the others).

I had all my hens in my house once. Our 50+ foot eucalyptus tree fell on our garage in November (During that crazy storm). The tree was resting on the garage, but the fire department said it could fall throught at any time, and we couldn't get anyone to come and cut up the tree until the following morning. If the tree did fall through the garage, it would have also smashed the chicken coop. I had to gather up all my hens and put them in the spare room inside (now called the chicken room).

Oh My .... that is really scary. You did get it cut down the next day with no damage, right?

Good job with the nest boxes! Mine seem to fill up one today and them move to another one tomorrow.

Megan is doing fine but busy with the Vet Tech training. The Pita Pinta and the EO Basque are beautiful and so friendly. Chema was super easy to get into the pet carrier too.

A reminder--last year I hatched Pita Pinta and EO Marraduna Basque for for Megan:

Now they are about 10 months old:

They look Wheaten colored.. love that rooster's look, it says "Oh Yeah? You lookin at me? Well I am lookin at YOU"
Got some pics for y'all... Three weeks old.

Boy?
Yes

If it follows wheaten coloring this may be a girl.

Another boy?
Yes

Love the colors on this one.
If that is a blue wheaten I think that's a boy too.

So cute, my guesses are in red.

Ok....we finished our coop today. We are now the proud parents of a Buff Orpington, Easter Egger, Partridge Wyandotte, and a Silver Laced Wyandotte. All but the Partridge Wyandotte are 10 weeks. I am not sure how old the Partridge is though. She is quite a bit bigger than the others. The man a got them from didn't have a Cochin or Barred Rock ready yet.....so we may go back in a few weeks to get them.
I am so excited....it's dark, but I want to go out and sit in the coop with them all night....LOL

Very cute!!! What kind is the one with the beautiful coloring?
It is at least partially Ameraucana. Came from a beautiful blue egg, but the hen was in with Ameraucana, Marans, and EE roosters, so the question is, "Who's your daddy?" I'll just call him/her an Easter Egger. Just noticed that ChickNmamma is calling the coloring Blue Wheaten, which sounds good to me! :D That it might be a boy, not so much. :/ What about the coloring/feathering is saying boy? (Total novice, here.) I think I have a full head and body shot if that would be helpful.

Congrats! That is always so exciting. My 6 week olds are still in the spare bedroom, they go out in the day but I will be sad when they start staying out full time.

Your are both on my list! It will be a while for them though....

People think the look like Mottled Javas but they are so unique--Not like Javas. Megan said the meat is prized by Chefs that will have it flown in to them.
me too Ron
Here is what I am setting today..... I went over to Deann's at JustStruttin' yesterday and am now all confused about what I have!

We talked about all kinds of chickens and then I came home with about two and a half dozen. I had ordered some "Wheaten Ameracauna" eggs from another BYC'er which came in the mail. So I am not anticipating a lot of those to hatch because they were shipped, She sent me 15 though so, hopefully I will get at least one hen out of that.

The others are English Orps, Polish, Welsummer, Cream Legbar's and an Olive egger project and some DBLL's. I don't usually use the abbreviations because I have such a hard time deciphering them. lol But DBBL? DBLL? DLBL? Heck I can't even remember now and I am too lazy to get up and look at the egg that Deann wrote on..

I am keeping my fingers crossed on the English Orps because she said she has been getting A LOT of Roosters......

, and I have only a few of those in there.

See this wasn't what I had planned..... as you can see I have TOO many eggs for the turners, but I am certain some will not develop at all so I will be able to fit them all soon.

Can someone remind me at what day I will know for certain there is no development? Day 10? or Day 7? Hatch day????

And this pretty little scale I found at Costco just yesterday. I didn't have a kitchen scale and have been looking for one ad this one was $10 cheaper than the one I saw at Target that I liked. So $19.99 not too bad. Goes up to 11 lbs.

very nice. If the Ameraucana eggs where shipped well you will probably still get a decent hatch

Okay, I think this is two separate shots of the same bird. I have a couple with really similar coloring, and it didn't help that the camera flashed in one photo and not in the other. In real life it is closer to the bottom photo.
