Lovely birds!

just so you guys know you have me wanting the following:

Marans...pretty much any color
Barnvelders
Basque
BLUE Australorps
Brabanters
SFH
anything Frizzled
Langshans
Sliver Penciled PRs
Icelandics...

and the list grows. Hopefully the hatch will net me some Dorkings and Chanteclers so they can be removed from my "Pre Nor Cal Thread Wish List" or we can add them to this list too.

And to think a couple of months back I was going to be keeping it simple by adding a couple of broody breeds a white egg layer and some EEs to my flock.
Me too! Argh! I want them all and all the beautiful pictures of birds in this thread aren't helping!!!

Here is what I am setting today..... I went over to Deann's at JustStruttin' yesterday and am now all confused about what I have!
lol.png

We talked about all kinds of chickens and then I came home with about two and a half dozen. I had ordered some "Wheaten Ameracauna" eggs from another BYC'er which came in the mail. So I am not anticipating a lot of those to hatch because they were shipped, She sent me 15 though so, hopefully I will get at least one hen out of that.

The others are English Orps, Polish, Welsummer, Cream Legbar's and an Olive egger project and some DBLL's. I don't usually use the abbreviations because I have such a hard time deciphering them. lol But DBBL? DBLL? DLBL? Heck I can't even remember now and I am too lazy to get up and look at the egg that Deann wrote on..

I am keeping my fingers crossed on the English Orps because she said she has been getting A LOT of Roosters......
hmm.png
, and I have only a few of those in there.

See this wasn't what I had planned..... as you can see I have TOO many eggs for the turners, but I am certain some will not develop at all so I will be able to fit them all soon.

Can someone remind me at what day I will know for certain there is no development? Day 10? or Day 7? Hatch day????

What a beautiful set of eggs! I can't wait to see the them hatch. Keep us posted!

Yeah I know they are'nt the best pictures but the subject matter is cute. I got a good mix of colors in this hatch!

"It's like looking in a mirror."

So cute! Mine are 2 weeks old and are huge now! <sigh> I kind of wish they stayed small, I have to keep reminding myself that they are for laying eggs. Yeah, just laying eggs for us to eat... not like I hang out and talk with my chickens for hours every day or anything...

Ok....we finished our coop today. We are now the proud parents of a Buff Orpington, Easter Egger, Partridge Wyandotte, and a Silver Laced Wyandotte. All but the Partridge Wyandotte are 10 weeks. I am not sure how old the Partridge is though. She is quite a bit bigger than the others. The man a got them from didn't have a Cochin or Barred Rock ready yet.....so we may go back in a few weeks to get them.
I am so excited....it's dark, but I want to go out and sit in the coop with them all night....LOL
Congrats! I was beyond excited when I got my girls too, I had waited YEARS to be able to have them!

yay!! all i will need is a third broody... need to get through the first two first!!

Hello! I'm new to backyard chickens and new to incubating eggs...does anyone out there know about Barnevelders fertile hatching eggs in the Sacramento area? I know Trisha up toward Redding, but wondered who else out there loves Barnevelders :). Currently, I have 3 Amercaunas, but am hoping to hatch some Blue Copper Marans and then in early May some Barnevelders. I'm so excited to have found this site!

Welcome! I have Blue Copper Marans and will have hatching eggs from my Black Copper Marans and my blues in about 3 weeks. Just put them together today. They were with my Ameraucana roo before. I hatched 4 OE from them (they've only been laying for a couple of months) but they're only 2 weeks and only kept one so we're a bit away from knowing what color the OE's will lay but my blue's lay a really dark egg. I have one in the incubator right now along side eggs some incredibly dark marans eggs and it holds it's own. I'm really happy with their egg color.

I'm sure you've been warned but this site will teach you all kinds of horrible justifications for adding more chickens!

Quote: It is at least partially Ameraucana. Came from a beautiful blue egg, but the hen was in with Ameraucana, Marans, and EE roosters, so the question is, "Who's your daddy?" I'll just call him/her an Easter Egger.

Just noticed that ChickNmamma is calling the coloring Blue Wheaten, which sounds good to me!

That it might be a boy, not so much.

What about the coloring/feathering is saying boy? (Total novice, here.) I think I have a full head and body shot if that would be helpful.

Okay, I think this is two separate shots of the same bird. I have a couple with really similar coloring, and it didn't help that the camera flashed in one photo and not in the other. In real life it is closer to the bottom photo.

I am just learning the Wheaten colors - but if they follow the Wheaten coloring all the bright colored birds with dark/light feathers are males and the buff colored even ones are females. Yours appear to have yellow legs - so may not follow the coloring.. but it sure does look like blue Wheaten to me... Go look on the Ameraucana thread, they had quite a few good pictures of boy and girls in the Wheaten coloring.

Congrats! That is always so exciting. My 6 week olds are still in the spare bedroom, they go out in the day but I will be sad when they start staying out full time.
That's where mine are, too! I have one brooder with 6 week olds that go out in the day, one brooder with 1 week olds, and a 3rd brooder with bobwhite quail. I also have a big dog kennel by the back door where the 10 week old chicks sleep at night. I need a few more predator proof pens outside!

Ok, all I can picture is all these little sperms just treading water, waiting in line for their chance!

Artist...middle child....yes, I've been told this before!

I just wanted to share how thrilled I am with my FBCM I got from debs_flock. He's been waiting patiently in our garden quarantine area and then, while I'm running late for work, running down the stairs, my husband says "oh, I let the rooster out", I stop mid step and say "what rooster?" he says your new one...I ask where Big Daddy is and he says he's out too....I start running down the stairs asking him if he was planning on monitoring cock fights all day and look up towards the barn and the two boys are at it!
barnie.gif
I'm running up there, (in my heels, dressed for work) and pull them apart. Poor Big Daddy's bleeding....I'm fuming at my husband and saying words I can't say on this forum and telling him to stop talking when he comments that the new roo kicked Big Daddy's.....
duc.gif
anyway, so much for quarantine, so today I put the two Blue Copper Marans in with him and I just have to say what a wonderful roo he is! Of course he had to mount each one right off....he was lonely. But since I had taken them both out of the laying boxes they were running around trying to find a place to lay. After about an hour he was going into his makeshift pad and calling them in, fixing the nest and encouraging them to lay with sweet talk. He was like an expectant father! He would pace around outside the nest, then go around the back and see if he could see in. It was the sweetest thing I'd seen and I'm so happy that he'll be a good flockmaster. It is truly amazing to watch a good roo do his job and he hasn't shown a bit of aggression towards me even while I was all around them, moving stuff around and weeding the garden.

Cannot wait to see what these birds create! Finally had some time to spend checking everyone out and one of the hens has the nicest stacked tail. I feel so lucky to have such quality stock. The batch of FBCM's from debs_flock and SunnyDawn are in the incubator now and due to hatch on 20th so my next hatch will be from these three. I'm really happy with the egg color from my blue's....they stand up next to the one's in the incubator pretty nicely.
