YAY for your reply!  and to anyone else who desires to feed our addiction...

My last breeding stock were Barnvelders from peace of thyme but the shells were so fragile and only 3x eggs each per week was a bummer.
We were wishing for wellies because : docile, lay rates, cold ready, distinct egg color (no need to separate from feed store hens during breeding to tell which to collect)

but now after reading this thread my interests have been peaked.:pop

We will like to occasionally sell hatching eggs and chicks and like interesting colors and somewhat rarity...

Blue Australorp (come on how cool is that)
Crele (don't know much about but VERY interesting)
blue or splash Marans (are they truly docile?)
Faverolles
Wellies
Barnies

Oh I probably could be talked into any nicely feathered, interesting colored egg, pure breed, cold hardy, docile, high layer!:duc  Im not picky or anything! I have had hens stay with us for 11 years and think of it as a long term commitment, barring raccoon, bear, and or coyote attacks that is.

So PLEASE feel free to tempt me to drive out ...What do you have available?

blessings,
Flowers

An Olive Egger from my Blue Copper Marans x Ameraucana. She crawled from my lap, up my arm, up my fingers and settled in. I took her up to see the chickens she was going to live with and she wooed her way under Big Daddy (one of my roos) who loves chicks and then she worked the crowd. As soon as she feathers in she'll fit in well.

But I don't have any available right now, just wanted to say how sweet some blue Marans can be and that a nice chicken, no matter what neck of the woods it comes from, usually lays a distinct egg. Unless you have tons of chickens, you can tell who belongs to who.

Sometimes weak egg shells and poor laying could be lack of calcium as well as other environmental issues although I know some breeds are more susceptible to certain issues. But then again, I have Polish who lay better then most and go broody, so who's to say what breed is the best for what?

Have fun on your quest and don't forget your part in it.

I have some eggs available this week.

Above are some of the rarest chickens you can find
White Empordanesa also a few eggs from my Blue Ameraucana who is with the White Empordanesa

Above are my other rare ones.
Crele Penedesenca

The Emp's are throwing a few real nice dark eggs

Ron, the HRIRs look amazing!!

and thanks, Jordan -- when they aren't getting corid, my flock ALWAYS gets ACV in their water, and yogurt usually twice a week or so -- and free-ranging whenever i'm home in the afternoons (or on weekends), so lots of greens and bugs and etc (i usually give them kale or spinach on days i'll be on campus all day) -- so, they eat well.

and i will definitely let you know if they need looking-in-on -- i've got two immediate neighbors with chickens, both of whom are willing to help, but if for some reason they aren't going to be around, i'll let you know. i've sent them lengthy instructions on dealing with the broodies and extra eggs in their nests and Corid in the water and ETC! and i'll be back saturday midday to check on everyone.

and Ron, thanks for the Southland link -- i use the deep litter method in my coop, & have not had any trouble with ammonia, but perhaps the e coli have been causing my chicklets' troubles? it's certainly worth a try...

Yes. I have ordered some for my place because is sounds like amazing stuff.

Have a great trip!

Hey All, Any Fresno area people on this thread? I tried asking in the Southern thread, but they seem to think Fresno is North ... I'm still new to chickenses, but am loving my 6 baby girls (lets hope they are all girls) and was looking for some locals to connect with. Cheers! Kat
Welcome to the thread! I'm in Modesto but my brother and sister in law live in Fowler :)

I've set some white empordanesa eggs and OE eggs for Jason (Hangtown Farms) and I was admiring the color on them. Thought I'd share. They are sharing a shelf in the incubator with call ducks, serama & a whole bunch of turkey eggs which are various levels of clean to muddy (turkeys seem to lay in the worst place they can find). Anyway, I thought Jason's eggs were beautiful!

Here's a closeup of one of the turkey eggs. I don't know how such a fuggly bird can lay such a pretty egg.

My great grandmother had a turkey farm. Not sure how they decided on turkeys but they must provide longevityin some way. She lived to be 102!!!!
I took a picture of each of the HRIRs today. Be prepared for too much cuteness!
I want some. Are you going to offer eggs from these guys in the future? They are so pretty.

Beautiful eggs. I am not familiar with the Emp's or crele though. Our coop is sturdy, elevated and heat lamp ready but it still hits a few degrees below a few weeks a year. How would these girls fair ?
