She sounds fine, but watch her. Sometimes they look like they are dead after dust bathing. I have had a couple just lay there in the sun for a bit before they get up!

It is very entertaining.

Oh it's hilarious! One of the OE's almost buried herself last night and all the other babes came over to "help" her pick of the pine shavings. Why do they act so funny after bathing?

Do these girls look close to laying?
The red in the face is getting closer.

Other signs are:

Egg squatting
investigating the nest box.

Egg squatting is crouching down for the rooster so if they are being mated then that is the same thing. They usually start laying a couple of weeks after that.

If they are checking out the nest box, they are usually days from laying the first egg.

Just from the picture I would say you will be waiting several weeks for the first egg.

How old are they? They are lovely too!

Thanks they are 22 weeks old. And ya they investigate the nest box alright; they sleep in it haha

Let's not talk about spelling <<
hahahaha I won't if you won't.

A friend of mine has GCM chicks hatching today from a line she has been working on, and I have reserved a couple of rooster chicks for my girls

Beautiful Babies!!!!! At some future point I WILL add golden babies to my flock!
the broody girls are now officially competing for the most egg-filled nests -- i'm working on getting them more eggs to sit on, but also might need to sort out different accommodations, as the australorp has now appropriated most of the nest box and ALL of the eggs from my poor hard-working Basque, who's been incubating them for more than two weeks. and this crazy wind isn't helping!
Isn't the wind AWFUL!!! I love all kinds of weather except the dry cold wind. Heinous!

In happy news my two jail birds both left the other's egg undisturbed today. There was another egg on the poop tray very thin fragile shell I guess I should have started adding calcium two weeks ago. When will it take effect?

I think of it like a deep muscle chicken massage.. they are groggy when they are finished.

Every time I see somebody mention Wheaten/Blue Wheaten AMs I think of you ... and dream of W/BW chicks... someday...
Fess up, you know we dream of all the pretty colors! Did you see the lemon blue LF cochins on the New crazy 24hr auction? They were soooooo pretty, I was so tempted but don't have an incubator

. Yet.

Hello and welcome to the thread. I don't have any Wheaten or Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas (note spelling please - very important to Ameraucana breeders) but I am just starting with Lavender Ameraucanas. I am in Jackson. The best bet for purebred Ameraucanas would be to buy day-old chicks from a breeder on the ABC site.

If you don't care about colors or the SOP - you can get some really nice Easter Eggers from Chickee. She crosses Wheaten/Blue Wheaten x Buff Ameraucanas and they lay beautiful blue eggs - but they are a non-standard color so are called an Easter Egger.

Yes, Chickee's chicks are BEAUTIFUL! I bought two from her last month and they are wonderful, sweet with great personalities and they look like little hawks!

Here are the Chicks we got when they were teeny tiny and then below a couple days ago around three weeks old. Can't WAIT til' they grow up and lay beautiful blue eggs :)
