California - Northern

A real quick candleing last night, 11 basque eggs with veining! A few more are porous and hard to really make out any details, I'll be dealing with some wonky air cells and even after a week they haven't re-attached. No strange smells so that's a good thing.

Yikes, that's a shame.  I have lots of spare roos that can be had for little to nothing.

This is my hatching egg list, so it would include most of my breeds.

As a flock defender, not too big, I'd probably go with an Icelanic or an Iowa Blue, both big enough and alert enough.  I do have a spare or two of each and several of the others breeds as well.

ETA - I know some of these wouldn't work, I just copied/pasted the list (and took off the egg prices :P )

It that all?...LOL :)

I missed this. With that group is get a cream leg bar. You'll get ccl what I call ultra mega eyes and light olive eggers. NY cl too is loud, however. But not marans loud. However if you want to do something with the extra room chicks CL'S are smallish not really dual purpose. But they are decent protectors.

Mine does not like black chickens however. I have racist chickens and dog >>.

I was leaning toward the Ccl or Campine for pure breeding and fun project breeding over the layer flock. So how LOUD is loud?!? I've never had a really quiet rooster , just some with a grating "voice" or annoying frequency. Those went "for a ride" so to speak.

Are their "quiet roosters" ?!?

Hang town - I'm just over the summit in south shore with a empty bator...just sayin.... I've only done about 10-12 hatches so my experience is small but I'm available if u like!

I am shopping around for shipping supplies. I want to know the best way to ship eggs. Affodabley!

Hi Molly,

I have a thread for You!

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/738943/the-great-egg-shipping-experiment

There is a discussion about the best way to ship for results and cost. After you read that great thread, pm juststruttin and chiqita. They will guide you through the fine points.

Sorry to hear about the missing eggs and malfunctioning incubator. Hope everything goes well in both instances!

Any updates, Ron? Picture updates, perhaps?
Pictures of course!

The first two chicks hatched. The splash is a Blue Egg Layer from the UofA. The other is a Bantam:

This is my lone Blue Egg Layer hatching in a tomato basket:

And there are pips!
