all 8 eggs that made it to lockdown hatched. Woot! We have one surprise crested. I thought I had waited long enough for the sperm to clear for that male (was at least 3 weeks) but I guess not. Lol I hope she's a she! I try to learn how to vent sex ducklings this weekend. Wish me luck and hopefully I manage not to hurt any babies. Eek!

I do hate to post it, but my Dad always said: "up to 30 days". Sadly no one wants to believe that one.

It is one of the reasons the first in first out thing some are saying cracks me up.

Those are very cute Ducklings!

A little light-hearted humor to start your day :)

Our little Roo-Man, Sprinkles. He is the SWEETEST thing!

And Sprinkles' wife, Olive. They are Olive Eggers from Miss Molly. When we got our chicks my dad asked me if we needed a rooster to get eggs. I told him I didn't need my husband to make my own eggs. LOL!

I try not to laugh when people ask me that. Because to me it made sense they lay eggs without a Rooster, but then again, I don't know other things that should clearly make sense to me without having to ask.
The first two chicks hatched. The splash is a Blue Egg Layer from the UofA. The other is a Bantam:

That baby has a BIG foot!

They aren't a breed you can sex at hatch (well, I can't anyway, LOL). They can be sexed within a few weeks. I don't remember where you're located.
I am in Lake County off hwy 29 not far off of Highway 20.

What kind of ducks are they?

It was closer to 25 or so days. But I figure 3 weeks was a good estimate. I had THE hardest time finding info on this regarding ducks. I read several places only 2 weeks for ducks. That's why I figured a little over 3 weeks was good. Guess not! Lol

Quote: Generally it would have been fine to wait 25 days but sometimes they go longer(super Sperm?). Remember this if your rooster dies everyone! You have "up" to 30 days to collect eggs from the hens to hatch a replacement for your rooster!

My goodness the things we talk about here.....

Too true. Love those babies, Amy! I really want some Welsh Harlequins but I don't know how well they'd mix with our Pekins. Would the male Pekin hurt the Harlequin ladies because of his size? Our Pekins are so bonded I have a hard time imagining them welcoming others into the fold, so to speak.

And those pictures are so cute, Ron! I can't wait to set our next eggs. I've got the bug.
