Welcome LiveLoveBOHO!

I have 5 in the brooder 2 still in the bator and I think that will be it. No additional pipping or zipping

I dont't know how a couple of these guys pipped at all their little heads were mid shell. It's like they pipped with their feet. Or maybe I have no idea what I am talking about. Another had its butt stuck in the shell though the rest of it was pretty well out for 24 hours. The moist paper towel trick work with all three. No new pips since Friday evening so I think I am done. Having to mositen paper towels and what not messed with the humidity yesterday. I think we are done.

In order of hatch we have

Mutt chick#1 Orpington mommy Golden Comet Dad
Mutt Chick #2 Polish mommy Dorking Daddy..shipped
Choc Rock #1 shipped
Mutt Chick #3 unknown red mommy Golden Comet Dad
Chock Rock #2 shipped
Mutt Chick #4 same as 3
Konza Prarie Ranger: Chooks Chicks project

so there were have it. Photos to come when they are all ready for public viewing.

Yes, pictures!! Congratulations!

Hi everybody! It's been a while since I've posted - hope everyone's doing well.
I have some questions about a cochin chick. It's perfectly healthy, but it seems a bit bizarre. It's a month old and has got some wonky feather thing going on. Is it a frizzle??
I'm pretty sure it's got the slow feathering gene, because it's outgrowing its chickie down, & it's starting to look nekkid.

..and what the heck is THAT??!?! It looks like a blister full of air between its neck and shoulder. It doesn't seem to be painful, and it doesn't look infected, it's just there. I've never seen that before.

Hmm, I think I'm going to need an incubator for hatching. I just want to stagger hatches too much, haha. I've been trying to find bantam Favorolle eggs and someone just offered me some (well, the chance to buy them) but at that point they'd be a week and a half or more behind my others and I just don't know. Do any of the cheaper incubators work for lockdown/hatching?

Yes, the cheap ones work fine.

Temps can be much lower at hatch too. I am looking forward to getting the chicks to you today!

I've read that if you glue a knob on top of the temp changing wrench, it's much easier to make fine tuning temperature changes.

I think you should go with woodwind players.

They are adorable they are defiantly pets we love then too much! We have frizzle and a sizzle or two.

Welcome to BYC and the Nor Cal Thread. :welcome   Those frizzles are super cute, and I can see your daughter is having fun with them (your son seems to be glued to the tv?)

I love silkies, I think they are the cutest babies ever and they don't really stop being cute when they grow up.  Maybe its because they stay fluffy? :love

We have some frizzled and sizzles silkies. Those babies are defiantly pets we love them so much ! So darn cute they have even melted the hubby who's a bit upset because he approved 4-6. I have 4-6 in chicken math

Is that bulge on it's neck it's crop? I've had some chicks that ate a whole bunch, and their crop looked a little naked. I don't know about the rest of it's patchiness though....
