California - Northern

I am in Modesto, and everyone here considers us to be in Nor Cal. I am originally from So Cal, so when I drive home to visit, I tend to see the line at the Grapevine, too. Always breathe a little easier when we are heading north toward home. ;)

Hi and Welcome!

Do you have chickens, Turkeys or Ducks\geese? Maybe even Peacocks or Guineas?

There are quite a few BYCrs your way.

Yes, I am assuming in pools that don't have beach entries. Sorry, I just have a really hard time believing that a chicken would drown in a pool that has such an incredibly easy exit.
You do know that chickens are not terribly bright, yes?

Though they ARE smarter than turkeys.

That would be me right now. I have a very sick dog I'm managing, plus my 4 kids, hubby was out of town and hatching my first goose egg. I wish I had time catch up. Right now I am round the clock syringe feeding my dog water and holding a gosling. I stole a few minutes to come on here. I think people generally understand. We all have home lives that differ. <3
I'm sorry you are dealing with so much right now. Hope your pup get's better soon.

This thread is so busy, I sometimes have trouble keeping up. After all, we all have lives too.

Welcome to BYC and to the NorCal thread! I also relax when I hit the Amador/El Dorado county line, crossing the lower fork of the Cosumnes River in River Pines; by then I've been out of Sacramento county long enough for my shoulders to come down from around me ears (figuratively, but I do believe I feel it). ;)

There are some Modesto and Turlock folks quite active on this thread. :)

Hahah! Yes, but I think maybe people underestimate them. I've seen some chicks do some pretty cool tricks...I'm fact, once my chicks are older, I'm planning on clicker training them. I'll teach them some fun stuff and take videos for you guys ;)

Crazy broodies and hens!!!

Why oh why do hens like to pile on top of each other when there are empty nest boxes?

There are 4 hens in this nest box...two are broody. My son has started to where socks on his hands to collect the eggs

Now I have 4 broodies including 3 hens that want to sit on eggs and one with chicks.

That is amazing to see!

If one more of mine goes broody I might try the old hang them in a cage from the rafters.....Or move her from pen to pen each day....

I might have to do the cage trick too. If it gets hot again, these silly hens might kill themselves by cramming in the nest box like that. Broody hens can be fun..but too many causes a lot of drama in the coop. Trisha
