Deb, even if you count that way you have way more then 20 chickens

Well, maybe a few more than 20

Morning everyone,
I have some shipped olive eggers eggs in my incubator and they have a few clear crystallized spots on them? Like they weeped something and it hardened? I haven't seen this yet. Should I get rid of them?

I'd give them the sniff test first. If they don't smell and they look good on candling, I'd leave them in there.

At the moment I have some eggs with weird blue spots on them, they are going into lockdown today. (They were sitting on the end of the counter near the liquor cabinet. DH splashed a bit of blue curacao on them while making a margarita, LOL. It hasn't seemed to bother the eggs at all, maybe the chicks will come out needing a 12-step program

Debs-flock,

Let me know if you need anything up this way again. Portland is a stretch, but I put on 680 miles for the Red Bluff show. DH handles it much better when I don't have birds in the van when I'm done. The 8 pairs I took to Salem last fall were pretty stinky but at least they didn't start crowing until 6:30 am. Bantam Sultans are quiet compared to the Nankins.

Thanks for the offer. You never know when I might need something else...........................

After all, I only have 20+ chickens.

They're olive eggs and usually I can't see through them so I haven't tried candling them but ya I will toss them. And try to candle the rest with my new candling device

I keep forgetting that not everyone has a candler like mine.

I can see into olive eggs with mine. You could keep them in for a couple of days, but if they start leaking a bunch they will stick to the turner and can really make the incubator stink.

Oh no they're gone lol. I don't want them to explode or ruin any other eggs in my hatch. It just puzzled me because they weren't wet. The spots were clear and hard like sap

They usually have micro cracks from shipping. I have seen them when I candled before setting them in the incubator. The cracks let bacteria get into the egg and it rots fairly fast.

Next time I get some like that I will post a picture.

anyone heard of uniqueincubators.com?
they have the best price on R-coms plus free 4-7 day shipping but I have not heard of them before.
I have not heard of them but they sound like a store front for R-Com incubators.

How exciting for you to be getting a new incubator!

Quote: I think the myth of the exploding egg is way over done. It can happen (and would be truly disgusting if it did happen), but doesn't really happen as frequently as you'd be led to believe with some of the exploding egg stories.

I've found three weeping eggs in my incubator and nothing exploded. With a cabinet, they can hide in the back since you aren't always staring at them through the window, LOL

This didn't explode...........

Of course, after I found it (noticed a slight smell coming from the vents), I did this with it, LOL

I agree about the exploding egg. I did have one ooze all over the place getting it off of the turner though. Quite stinky.

Mahroni said one exploded on him but maybe it just popped a bit and then the smell exploded into his nose....

Hi all and I hope that you are enjoying a relaxing Memorial Day weekend! Our daughters graduated from Saint Mary's College of California on Saturday! It was a wonderful ceremony followed by a huge party on the the front lawn at the college. Happy families, Beautiful smart young people who accomplished something grand and to top it off I got to chat with members of my beloved Gaels Men's basketball team. It was a wonderful wonderful day!

Home now and thinkinking about Curly and who I should provide for him in his pen when the time comes.

So here is his personal ad. Hoping you guys can give me a hand

Handsome young blonde cockerel seeks partners in life:

Must be docile and sweet. Would prefer not to ever take a long walk on the beach since I have a bit of a limp but candidates are welcome to wander about my large yard as they wish, just don't go too far as I am not sure I can protect you as well as I should. Willing to share meal worms, yogurt and watermelon and the occasional shad. I am not opposed to fuller figured gals but think I will be of the greatest service to gals on the smaller side.

breed recommendations??? something that isn't a great forager and bears confinement is preferable. I think that Curly's mama was either a BO or a Delaware and his dad was either Ray or a smallish Golden Comet roo. He is so much lighter than anyone in my uncles pen that I am leaning towards him being from one of my Del girls.

Thanks!
