Oh my gosh. Busy weekend for me. My (soon to be) four year old's birthday party was Saturday. Spent 8 hours pulling weeds and planting 48 thyme and 7 lavender plants in my front yard today. Just finished my margarita, and I think it is shower and Advil time!

Hope everyone does okay in the valley heat! My girls have been seeking the shade during the hottest part of the day, and it is only supposed to be in the 90s this upcoming week, so I think they will be fine.

Hi Molly.  I made my first posts on the website today.  Did my intro and posted Blue's photos to get input on his/her gender.  No crowing yet but, of the 3 beautiful Bantam Cochin chicks I got from you, the 2 flashy ones seem to be roos :-(.  Before I begin trying to find new homes, I thought I'd try posting online for feedback as I don't want to make a hasty decision and evict a hen.  

All 5 of the lovely chicks you sold me are thriving.  We named the 2 confirmed girls, Tilly for our Cream Legbar and Inga for our Norwegian Jaerhon.  We couldn't be any happier with our chick buying experience.  Many, many thanks.  

 

It was so nice meeting you. I'm happy to here you are enjoying your Chicks I got your picture mail. I wasn't sure on the Cochins bantams yet. Lets give them a little more time... I will keep in touch.

Ah, I see. Thought maybe there was some cool sexing trick that I missed! Max is cute either way. How old is he? Some of my pullets used to spar like mad when they were young, so it's not just a cockerel behavior. Very entertaining though!

max junior will be 6 weeks tomorrow -- and i remember some of my female chicks sparring too, but i figure, if i assume all spar-ers are male, i might end up happily surprised, instead of hoping all the small-combs are girls & then ending up... with boys.

I have a Marans girl wanting to sit on some eggs. This is the second time she's tried to go broody. Well I think I'll give her some to hatch she's in the coop in one of the nesting boxes. The other hens and roo can get to her so should I seclude her now or once the chiks hatch?

Hi, Nor Cal neighbors.  Working on our almost completed chicken run in this heat is making my bird brain worse!

Howdy and I feel you on that one. I have been working on the coop/run for about 6 weeks? Maybe 5. Only on the weekends and I have missed a day here and there. You know..... for usual weekend stuff.

I am so close to being able to put the chickens outside as they are also 5 or maybe 6 weeks? I have lost count and the heat is frying my brain!!!

If I could have I would have been outside naked today working on the coop!
But that hardware cloth is dangerous! I didn't want to snag anything important.

At one point I ran into another difficulty and all I could do was sit there and stare at it. Couldn't think of a solution. Too HOT!

A few days ago I was up at the barn feeding the dogs and horses and care for the chickens, so I figured I'd open the run from the grow out pen and let the dozen Marans wander a bit. My husband hollered that my employee was on the phone....forgetting I left the gate to the open, open, I came back and no Marans. After chasing them through the bushes on the neighbors property, I was exhausted and then the hot flashes started! Needless to say, it's a good thing the coop is pretty secluded!

Hi and welcome! This must have been working for your chickens day. I worked until I got overheated, makes me mad I can not take the heat like when I was a kid. I have to deal with hot flashes after all.

I only refreshed water and feed and then I hosed everything down, including myself! Time to hook up the mister.

Awwww, they are! The last time I had them was about six years ago when someone dumped a pregnant cat on us. They were so much fun.

I found the Momma as a very tiny wild Kitten last year. I brought her home and gave her lots of love. She is such a Sweetie. You would never know she was once wild. We decided to let her have one batch of kittens. She is already such a great Momma ....I'm so proud of her
