speaking of baking (i am SO hungry after catching up on this thread from this morning), i have a baking question -- as i have several favorite recipes that all for only egg yolks, i've been saving up the spare whites in the freezer -- and recently decided it was time to try making my first-ever angel food cake. and it worked out great -- used up my 12 frozen egg whites, and turned out perfectly -- except i found the recipe to be way too sweet for me. anyone have an angel food recipe that's not insanely sweet? (this one had two cups of sugar, one confectioners and one granulated...)

i'm working on learning more egg-heavy recipes!

Ok I am freaked out! I went in to check my broody and I have her sitting on 15 blue eggs. 2 eggs were moved 2 boxes away. How in the world did she move them over there? Without breaking them. The boxes are in a line enclosed. How could she pick them up? Not with her beak or her feet right? Lol I am at a loss but they were moved somehow

Chickens will tuck eggs under their wings and abscond with them. Do you have another girl thinking of going broody? Usualy when they move eggs they are not viable, but sometimes people steal them or they forget how many eggs they have and can not count.

Floppy Comb is broody again! She found a pile of eggs and sat on them, I'm going to have a lot of mutt chicks if they are fertile. Mario said she had been there for 3 days before I noticed.

One of my customers who runs a school had one of her silkies stolen!Who steals silkies from a SCHOOL?? The kids are very upset, so they are picking up some more grow outs this weekend.

welcome Connie, I have to go read your posts now.. wow is intriguing!

Yes I have a black sex link that keeps trying to sit on my Marans eggs. Whenever one gets up to get a drink etc..the other steals the box

Okay, I vaguely remember reading this somewhere before, but frozen eggs? Do you just crack them and freeze them?

I remember freezing a breakfast dish a few years back..... ummmmmmmm a Frittata I think it was, and they used the eggs in the carton. You put all the ingredients in a pan or dish, freeze it and then throw it in the oven when you want a quick breakfast. They turned out absolutely fine..... actually they were good. Now you got me thinking again, and I don't even have any eggs yet to worry about!

these are just whites frozen, after the yolks were separated out for other things -- i'm actually not sure about yolks, but whites come through being frozen & thawed without any trouble.

Confirmation or opinions please........

Sorry some of the pictures seem hazy. I think the lens was a little dirty....

I think this is my one Basque that hatched and it seems to be a boy.....? Is that an accurate assumption?

Blue Orpington I think. This comb is redder and wider than one of the others, but I am not at all familiar with Orpingtons.

I love the coloring on this bird. Any guesses on gender? I posted the top of this one yesterday and tried to get a better front picture today. These guys are all almost 7 weeks old.
Basque is a boy, girls are usually darker and the comb is a giveaway.

The Orp is not an orp, its an OE (my guess). If that is from my eggs it is from the OE 2 project (DLBB X OE (True Americana X Marans)) Looks like a roo, but you may be a girl. Jury is still out on that one.

The Polish is a girl.

So I just put some Blue Kote on it?
I'm curious, if the bare spot is due to feather picking, why is it not bleeding like it did when they picked at his tail?
Does not look plucked. How many chicks are in the brooder? It looks like they may be jumping on each others backs. Do they crowd in the corners?
